Got a suite overlooking the arch and river in downtown saint Louis and the Elks club is here throwing down for a convention.

Average age: 67

Good folks but damn, I drove all day to get here and they a party room on every floor starting at 4 and ending at 18. Just got handed a whiskey coke with no mixer lol... not sure if this is an old people orgies thing or what but non of them are really attractive so I'm definitely not going there.

Anybody an elk member or know about them?

My dad was an Elk at lodge 490. He was Louisiana president of BPOE in 1987. Elks like to drink but does a lot of good for veterans.

I put down a $30 spot to win a raffle, a sweet old lady told us about the veterans stuff so I had to donate.

Me and old lady are tired but got a big day planned tomorrow. I had a cold all last week so I've been on cough meds all day and I see why they say not to drink with it. I'm being sloppy. Need bed time, I'm off 10 days, got plenty of time to go crazy with the elks members

Never known a member, but I've walked through their national headquarters in Chicago.

It's a rather spectacular building with some crazy shite in there.

I’m a member because it’s something that’s really important to my dad. Essentially it’s a members only bar that does charible work for veterans and their families. They like to throw down and don’t believe a can beer should ever cost more than $2, so I’m in.

I grew up at the elks club in Shreveport since baby, would ride my bike there everyday in summer from ages to 8-11, swim practice around 7am, stayed there til closing 9 pm at night. Parents would come after work and bring food or cook on the grills there. They had a caboose train bar, where I’d go in and hit my dad for money. Wish I had one nearby now, would be a member in a heartbeat

Problem with lodge #490 (Baton Rouge) is that the membership got older and new younger members were not being enrolled therefore, the Baton Rouge lodge closed its doors.

The Elks would have Friday night fish fries once a month. Would have bingo for cash prizes every so often. Were patriotic and helped the veterans home in Jackson, La.

The ladies had their own auxiliary. And the members would occasionally drink and get happy and sing frank Sinatra songs. The elks sponsored a fast pitch softball team for 13-15 year olds.

Jim hawthorne’s sister in law and husband were members at one point.

I have an elks club next to my neighborhood. People rent it for various reasons.

When I was young, I use to think it was a hunting club for people who hunted elk (but never understood why they had a place in Louisiana),

My dad was in the Elks and used to go to that convention a lot of years. I don't think my parents were swingers, but I never asked and I never recall any weird parties at the house.
