Just doing my job, and someone assumed I was somehow judging them / treating them differently than other customers. This has happened to me twice and I don't usually work with the public.

Once it was while carding a individual for alcohol, I carded a young black man and he didn't have his ID so I told him I couldn't sell it. Then I didn't card the 60 year old white man after him. The black guy accused me of being racist, I told him the dude looks like my grandpa and you look mid twenties at best.

The time today was about the same type of circumstance.

My question is what percentage of racist things that happen to people is just made up in their own paranoid minds?

I always thought that whole "eracism" bumper sticker was about online racism.

But accusing someone of racism is so tired these days. It's a sign that the person doesn't have any logical argument.

In 2016 America? I'd say most.

I'm white by birth, but I identify as black, so I say this from a position of authority. Transracials like me have to be on guard.

If you are white and you work in a retail business that involves alcohol or EBT, it's bound to happen.

I was accused of being a racist for refusing to sell a black guy a warm meal on his EBT card several years back. We also had a guy in seafood who would steam the crab and rig the bar code to allow people to buy it on EBT. They'd get pissed when I wouldn't allow it. All you have to say is "I could lose my job," which is true.

I did see a 45 year old get refused cigarettes at Walgreens bc he didn't have an ID. In theory it makes sense, in reality it looked silly and was awkward.

I used to be called a racist on a daily basis because of a similar scenario

quote:

someone assumed I was somehow judging them / treating them differently than other customers

Except, I was the only white person out of 80(students, it was a trade school) and all of our daily customers were black as well.
