I told him once and he had already run my card incorrectly. My buddy tipped since his bill was undercharged, I didn't since mine was overcharged. I don't think that's a big deal
The whole scene seems like it could have been avoided by better communication.
Describe the waiter though. Give me a reason to hate him.
Did he look like a vegan? Maybe a commie?

You're still an a-hole for going to a restaurant and not leaving a tip.
I use the word restaurant loosely, this wasn't some nice place. Chili's level

Eh, he had a "my dad will sue you" haircut
ETA: And I realize that better communication could've avoided this. Instead of bringing him back over and having to void the transaction I figured it'd be easier to let the other guy tip and not leave anything on mine

not trashy
what is trashy is not correcting your mistakes the 2nd time around. i would've done the same thing, only a little bit earlier in the night.

You couldnt just buy your buddys drink and say he owes you one?
Or have his buddy cover the tip since you got his drink?

Still not feeling the hate.

I'm gonna downvote your next post on the Poli board even if I agree with it

Your story makes it sound like he tipped for his portion of the bill but not yours. If that's the case then no this did not happen.

Oh yeah? We'll I'll have ball-slappingly nasty sex with your mother.
And I won't leave her a tip this time.

This was a given. There was no need to explain.
If I was your friend, tonight would be the last time I hang out with you at a restaurant/bar. How hard would it of been to inform the server that your friend covered the tip for both of you since your card was overcharged and his undercharged...Also I would of fired the server back in my restaurant days (although it was never a shitey place like Chili's) but you didn't help the situation any either with your reaction.

Please tell me you're a woman... Because a dude would just pay for his buddy's drink and be fricking done with it.

Surely I can't be the only one here siding with the OP after reading the entire scenario, yes? OP didn't order a drink and after asking for a correction, both he and his mate had drinks appearing on bills. Waiter wasted a chance for a tip by giving the loot to his employer instead of his own pocket.
Who wouldn't complain if you were buying jeans and had an extra t shirt added yet no t shirt ends up in your bag?

don't get this attitude at all, it is not up to me to subsidize a businesses employees.
I will go 12-15% for decent to good service, 20-25% for good to excellent, shitty service or attitude gets 0%.
No one has a divine right to a tip, if you are aware that you are working for gratuities then act accordingly.

no not really. In hindsight I know I shouldn't have yelled back either.
This is one of the 20 other things you could've done to avoid this incident. For starters, just ate the few bucks for your boyfriend's drink

It sounds like you send sautéed shrimp back when the menu says it's grilled.

Most waiters today are total shite. Don't' try to compensate for your incompetence as a waiter by pretending to by my best friend for 45 minutes. A sign of a good waiter is forgetting they are there. These mother frickers today are all up in my shite.
