Good books to read

I'm heading on a trip and need some good book recommendations. I'm a fan of The Kite Runner, any WWII novels (A Higher Call was awesome, and yes make fun of me but I enjoyed the Hunger Games books. Also a big fan of Brad Thor and the Scott Harvath novels but am caught up on those.
Any good books out there you recommend as a must read. Thanks in advance.

This was good when i was a kid.
This was a good a little later.
This was good to escape reality.
Unfortuantely I havent read a novel since I was 16 so I cant offer much.

I liked it. Kind of crazy if you think about it. It was kind of similar to one of the other ones (can't remember the name) but it was entertaining. The whole schtick has to end soon though.

All the Light We Cannot See and The Nightingale are two good WWII novels I've read this year. I believe AtLWCS won the 2015 Pulitzer for Fiction.

Nobody's Fool -- Richard Russo.
It's a book from the mid 90s, and it was horribly adapted to a shitty movie, but the writing was terrific.

Check out the Silo Series (Wool, Shift and Dust). Many say that after reading this series, it makes the Hunger Games seem terrible.
It's an incredible series.
ETA: There is a movie adaptation of Wool by Ridley Scott coming.

I don't know if you are in the scifi/fantasy but
Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothmas was great and has a sequel.
Also I m currently reading Cycle of Arawn an enjoying it as well.
And if you are a geek or in to 80'ss culture you would love "Ready Player One"

Have you read Empire Falls and/or Straight Man? If so, how does it compare to those two? Because I enjoyed both of those.

Since you like Kite Runner, maybe try the Book Thief. And it is set in WWII.
