Yep. Know a few. Probably extremely intelligent in one area but lack common sense and have a low social IQ

Guy I went to HS with was in the honors program, then attended a very prestigious music school only to drop out and basically vagabond his way around the state. It probably didn't help that he lost close a family member in the process

Have no idea what he's doing now or if even still alive.

Over the course of my working life I became very wary of new graduates with a 4.0. They seemed to be unable to differentiate when something needed to be done perfectly, and when things just needed to be done adequately, and quickly. Some got past it with experience, some could never finish a simple project due to what I called paralysis by analysis.

Very prominent in engineering. I'm not saying that a 4.0 means that they will be a bad engineer, but I would say there's no correlation between GPA and work performance.

You missed that my entire post had nothing to do with the topic in general.

I know someone who was really good at school and is mediocre on her career but sucks at any actual life skill known to man.

I can relate, test are easy work not so much. If you could work with out dealing with drama I'd be up for it but you can't.

I was a horrible college student, but I’m really good at my job (or at least my evaluations say I am).

Hilarious. No way I'd want such a person teaching society's children.

Mediocre students are, by definition, not as good at learning new material, which makes them less useful to an employer.

If you can learn quickly they can put you wherever they need you.

Making good grades and having a successful career take two different skill sets. Of course a successful career is defined differently by different people.

I'm sure it depends on the field, but when I was in school the saying was A students make the best researchers, B students make the best teachers, and C students make the most money.

All of our interns are 4.0 future CPA's and terrible in the office. Had one of them address an envelope (return address pre-printed for reference) and put it like this:

Company Name 123 Maple, NYC, NY 01555

All on ONE line. We asked if he didn't know how to address an envelope and he said (instead of being embarrassed) - "Why would I know how to? Everything is done electronically."

Idiot.

I am the opposite. Didn’t give a shite in school, tons better and work harder in my career........and that’s why I have a business degree and work my arse off for change.
