Lots, most of the people that are mediocre at school do the best in the work field.

Is this sarcasm or a serious answer?

This, the most successful of my classmates were the ones who were average students. Our valedictorian became an elementary teacher

Obviously a woman. A great example of the "wage gap" B.S.. Smart woman who chooses to be a school teacher...nothing wrong with that at all, but she could have earned more obviously.

We talking middle school, high school, or college?

My experience is that the people who did well in college, did well in the work force regardless of how they did in high school. Most colleges require some real time management without anyone over your shoulder. And things don't stay "easy" like they can in HS.

I have come to learn that it isn't necessarily about book smart but rather imposing your will, desire, persistence, work ethic and motivation upon the specific task you are trying to accomplish.Know what you want, take action, notice whether its working , change strategies if necessary, but keep going until you reach your final destination.

No one starts a career off middle school grades....and obviously good high school grades translate to a college graduate...

So obviously this is about college to career.

Used to work with a guy who was a EE with a MBA. He must have been one of those who was good at preparing for and taking exams. The guy struggled to grasp basic elements of his job.

my Dad once told me "To get ahead, it's not so much what CAN you do. It's usually what are you WILLING to do."

My point is that some smart kids can get by in high school doing the minimum without learning to manage their time and work for good grades. Tough to get away with that in college if you did anything besides a liberal arts or history degree.

I think you meant FIELD WORK. Like, working in the field digging ditches.
