It is fricked up because it deprives the man of his right to defend himself. It punishes a man even if he tries to comply with the law. Under this law, he could go to a bar and pick up a female, card her himself, interrogate her, and if she's a good enough liar and has a good fake ID, he still rots in prison. it's senseless to punish someone who had no intention of breaking a law. Let a jury decide whether or not he should've known her age.

The law allows this to happen, notwithstanding the arbitrary 13-14 age range you picked. It is irrelevant if it has or has not happened. It CAN happen. In this case here, the guy evidently questioned her and was lied to. Is it so unimaginable in your small world that a minor could have a fake ID?
