"properly?" So your 4k shaky video is better than the shaky 1080p video my phone records? Regardless, it's all better than what our parents had. And it's much easier to catch a spontaneous moment with your phone than anything else.

I just don't see how you can say kids are documented worse now than previously.

I also don't consider posting a picture or video to Facebook as an adequate way to store it for any long period of time.

Why not? It's not going anywhere.

Having said all that, this isn't really the thread for this. Let's make another one

It will change you for the better. There will come a day when you won't remember how you were without children. Time flies.

Agreed about the spontaneity of a phone, but I just find I'm much more committed to documenting stuff because I have a traditional camera over my phone. The overall point is to just document any and everything you can, even the seemingly boring stuff, and back it up. What tool you use is obviously up to you.

I couldn't agree more with this advice. You will not regret doing this. It's priceless stuff and so much better than short videos from a phone. I'm very pro video camera. I took videos at the hospital for all of my siblings, too, when they had their kids and they are now happy to have them. My sister would bring the dvds on their trips in the car for the kids to watch. My brother puts his on the TV every Christmas Day while they're unwrapping and getting lunch ready. The kids love it. We watch ours pretty frequently.

Don't ask your wife how long the baby weight stays on her.

Hide the zipper pj's from your wife so they are available when you're dressing him. If you only have button up jammies, get some zipper ones.

Never stand in the line of fire when changing him, and always keep your mouth shut. Play with him after the diaper is secured.

They grow out of the newborn diapers almost immediately. Return extras for bigger sizes.

Nose Frida

Your wife is going to be miserable and useless for a few weeks. Suck it up and do as much as you can.

Try and stick to the feeding and napping schedule as much as possible.

Don't shake him, no matter how much you want to.

Do not let them sleep with you! You'll never get them out of there. 1-2 crying nights in their own beds beats 5-6 years of them taking up your space every single night. Also, no morning sex with them in the middle.

Get as much sleep as you can now.

Sleep when the baby is sleep.

frick the experts, pacifiers are your friend.

Get the gowns or the zipper pjs, those button ones were made by the devil!

Enjoy every moment of it. The grow up faster than you know!

Zippered onesies for sleeping. Buttons suck.

Swaddle the shite out of him. They have these swaddle sacks and wraps that IMhO are way better than the old school clothes because they're idiot proof and quick in the middle of the night.

Need a noise maker and black out curtains for the nursery. You basically want the nursery to be like a womb for the babys nap: dark warm cozy and white noise.

I'd recommend y'all both read BabyWise or Moms on Call and get on one of those schedules. If your wife is going back to work around 6 weeks, Moms on Call is better.

Burping takes/needs a little more force than you'd expect. Have an older nurse at the hospital show you before heading home.

And most importantly, don't sentence him to the lifelong shame of an anteater.
