My 12 year old boy is crying and it breaks my heart but my dog is suffering and I cant bear to watch it anymore. My dog is also 12 so the two of then literally grew up together.

Sucks man...first time I've had to put down a dog

I'm very sorry. It's gonna be a tough day. I've done it 3 times. Sucks.

I feel your pain. When my corgi was ready, the vet came to our home. We made her comfortable in her own bed, in the family room with all of us present. We had on some soothing meditation music playing low. The vet spent probably 30 minutes with us on the floor petting her and talking to her to put her at ease, before finally administering the sedative to put her down. We were all bawling, but I wouldn't have done it any other way.

I’m sorry, brother. My dog is 12 now and I know his time is coming soon. It’s heartbreaking.

No matter how hard it might be for you, be there for the procedure. Don’t leave them alone.

Sorry to hear it. Give the dog all the love and head scratches. It's never easy.

It suck. I recently went through the same thing. My 9 year old was torn up over it. But it helped a little to let him be the one to pull the trigger.

That sucks man. Just hold him and pet him as you do it. (It’s ok to shed a tear)

This is coming up for us. Our dog is 14, she's become deaf in one ear and hard of hearing in the other and her back legs have gotten a little stiff with arthritis. She can still jump into the back seat of our SUV by jumping up onto the floor first but I now have to pick her up to put her in the very back.

That's awesome!! Might see if my vet can do this. Still trying to decide if I want to bury him or have him cremated.

Man it's really hard to know if this is the right time. But ny dog just lies in bed all day, hasnt barked in probably 3 months, has lost almost all of his hair, has a skin condition that we have been trying to treat for over a year but nothing works and he itches all day long. I just hope I'm making the right decision but he looks miserable. Like there is a part of me that worries that I'm just giving up on him.

I'm so sorry you and your family are having to do this today.

Just be there for your dog in his/her last moments and let your son know it's ok to cry.

I have an eight year old Golden Retriever who is my best dog ever after my last Golden Retriever who was the best ever. They rarely make it to 12 so I already am dreading what you are going through. If medical science was so great at extending life expectancy, get to work on the dog side of it.

Our 11 year lab mix has a liver mass and vet can't say how much longer he has. But the mass will get worse and we will have to put him down at some point. This is my husband's dog that he loves like a child so when that day comes he will be shattered.

I've already bought this and done the paw prints....

And have considered getting a memorial box for when the time comes that my husband can put his container of ashes in as well as his collar (they make this for pets). Also have heard of people taking the ashes to be made into various jewelry (like glass beads or other types of jewelry).

Also seen these pawprint stones you can do to put in your yard. Just some ideas to remember your dog after they are gone. Hope it is helpful.

This is on of the yard stones I've seen, but I know they have kits you can buy off Amazon for this purpose as well...

Just love him and hold him till the end. Its a miserable feeling, but if its time its time. I just put my 15 year old weimaraner down in August. Literally the the whole family was just bluh for a week. I still go to her spot whe its time to give out treats to the other dog.
