Early in the morning The Lone Ranger would come on, then later The Three Stooges. Looney Tunes kicked in a little later then Mid South Wrestling.

Saturday mornings at 6 am the Little Rascals came on. Then came Superfriends, Looney Tunes, Fleabag & Spiffy, Fat Albert, Mr. Magoo, The Ant & the Aardvark, Laff Olympics, The Pink Panther, ABC’s Weekend Special and last but not least at like 12 or 1....Space Ghost.

I got the tiny original Nintendo and was playing this morning. Level 8-3 of the original Mario is pissing me off. Luckily holding the A button and pressing Start twice allows me to start at 8-1 when I die.

Watching cartoons in the late 80s and 90s was the best. You had access to all the classics plus a giant lineup of great shows.

I remember when I was little- I didn’t know what days of the week were. I thought the word for Saturday was “tomorrow”. I’d get up at the buttcrack of dawn and turn on the tv. When Popeye came on I would get so excited because I knew it was tomorrow and would vedge out until adults started waking up and took over the Only TV in the house.

Funny the same people that are bitching about today’s kids playing video games all morning are the same ones who watched TV all morning when young.

We got up early and stared at the test pattern until cartoons fired at 7 am. The fun ended after American Bandstand around noon.
Looked forward in the fall to a Friday night teaser one network would run to promote the "new cartoons" for the season. Of course, they only made about 6 episodes per season, so it was rerun city again in no time.

Pre things like Cartoon Network, Saturday mornings were like a weekly mini-Christmas. I grew up in the 70s/80s in a rural area that had only 3 channels until LPB showed up in the early 80's.
I would wake up on Saturday mornings, sometimes before the station was on the air (would just sit and play with toys while keeping an eye on the static in those cases), watch whatever early morning shows KNOE would run (3 Stooges, US Farm Report, My Three Sons, etc) until cartoons started up (switching channels very quietly so as to not wake the parents).
Every. Saturday. Morning.
This is a bit of magic and wonder that kids today will never know :(

Really? The same people?
At any rate, I think it’s a little different when you would get to watch TV for 3 1/2 hours, one day a week instead of having access to garbage on the phone or the computer 24 hours a day. When it was over, we would spend the next day and a half outside until it got dark on Sunday evening.

As soon as the cartoons were over I was out in the streets playing seasonal ball, no later than 9am. I was the typical "be home when the streets lights came on". Hitting the books was my problem..I know I am not the only one.
