If it's a 2014 and you are an OT regular, then you only have 72 months left on your MSRP note. I think you have to fix it.

Just get rid of it. It's not smart in my opinion to keep vehicles past 80k+ miles. Let someone else deal with the other problems that are soon to arise.

176k miles on my nissan vq motor. Still cruising strong and gets 17 mpg on an armored up 4x4 with lockers, 10 plys, and lift.

Is owing vehicle for 5+ years frowned upon?

My 2014 Sierra with 5.3 motor has 110k on it and has a bad lifter in it. Dealer want's 5k to rebuild or 9k for a new motor. At this point trying to decide if it's best to move on with something else or rebuild it? Anyone had a similar situation?

Go to a junkyard and find a truck thats been rear ended.

If you were to consider replacing the motor, there’s no reason to do it until it blows up on you OP. I’d replace the oil like the other guy said with a different weight and do some other cheaper things to control it.

Then I’d get some quotes to have it repaired which is probably all it needs.

Then I’d get quotes to get an engine swap.

I’d buy a new truck before spending $5k to fix an old one. It’d be the excuse I need to do it.

Why wait until 80k? Is there some black magic that makes “other problems” arise soon after that mileage?

I like to just rent a truck, not lease that’s cheaper and has its own issues. I like to just rent my truck monthly from enterprise. It’s expensive as shite but hey no problems to deal with.

Seriously though OP TTL is the same cost as getting your truck repaired. If you don’t mind putting up with the repairs it’s almost always cheaper to repair then replace.

I had an 09 Sierra until I got a 17 Silverado and not one iota of trouble from it. Truth be told I wish I would have just kept it.

My brother also has an 08 Silverado and aside from brakes and some other general maintenance has no issues either.

Spend 9k at a performance shop and get something that will last and have 500hp. Seriously LS builds are cheap

Have the same issue currently. I lost two cylinders (4 and 6) in McComb, MS. Got a quote yesterday to replace all 16 lifters, throttle body assembly, spark plugs, and head gaskets. $2094 after labor and taxes. I thought this was a good deal. 2012 GMC Sierra 1500 4X4. 234K miles

They just quoted that option too. I'm sure so they can get more money.

No, a shop in McComb that works on diesel and gas motors. Five Point Diesel is the name of the shop. Now, they are busy and can't get to my truck until next week. I have the quote if you would like me to send it to you.

If it's just a bad lifter, just change the lifter. Did it damage the camshaft? If not, there is no need to rebuild the engine. Even if it did damage the cam, replace the cam. You don't need a new engine. The bottom end of the LS engines are dang near bulletproof. Only way they will go bad is neglect.

Get a second opinion. You probably don't need a full rebuild. It may even run well enough as is.
