Nothing artificial about it. It's based on consumer demand, and people nowadays want electric, even trucks.
GM always had fewer semiconductor shortages and fewer supply chain issues than Ford, but they both recently ironed a lot of that out. So inventory has been slowly climbing. Unless you are getting a Tahoe, Suburban, or Yukon…it’s not that hard to find a full sized GM truck on a dealer lot.
And they figured out that they can make more profit keeping inventory at 50-60 days max. So they cut production when they hit that level in a lot of places. They will probably rotate idling of the 4 plants that make pickup trucks and use the time for plant repair and maintenance. Ford will do something similar.
It’s less acute or a problem at Toyota as they have far less production capacity. A 5% swing in demand for a product that sells 100,000 units is a lot less of a problem than a 5% swing in demand for a product that sells 650,000 units.

Maybe this will give GM time to fix their AFM engines.
I see it’s pretty common to need engine work on their newer vehicles due to the lifter failures.

I hope you don’t think your “immediate family” is a summary of the buying public.
I wouldn’t touch one of these EV turds. The performance is not remotely close to gas vehicles and the prices are absurd.
Quit promoting all of the leftist trope on EV’s just to push a climate agenda.

I have zero desire to own an EV anytime in the foreseeable future.

What a clown.

They don’t need to try and manipulate some supply and demand dynamic to list at higher prices
JFC, you cite supply and demand and then turn right around and say that if supply is lowered that it wouldn’t affect price? And the can arbitrarily charge whatever they want to get that price regardless of supply or demand?

Supply and demand influences all products and vehicles can be classed as goods or commodities. What do you think happened the past couple of years? One supplier limiting one line of trucks isn't going to do much for trucks overall but if ALL suppliers of a particular type of truck limit supplies market forces will artificially raise prices.
The post I was replying to suggested that they intentionally shut down a plant with the intent of keeping prices high. My point was that if they wanted to keep prices up they don’t need to shut down production to do it. They can charge whatever they want regardless.

I would never pay that much for any vehicle.

Very few people want EVs.

Uuhhm, NO
You think that I wanna pull my boat out of the launch or pull a stump out of the ground with an electric truck?
Enjoy your Prius
