Apparently they haven't abandoned the idea.

These are the same guys who changed their logo to include an electrical plug when the announced their desire to force EVs on everyone by a certain date....If research suggests they'll take a large enough hit over this crap, I'd suspect they'll abandon this, too.....

Yeah, and the idiots saying they won't buy a GM now will be sorely surprised to find that BMW and Toyota are already well ahead of them in the pay-to-play arena of vehicle options. Every car OEM will do this eventually, this was written on the wall 15+ years ago after CAN-bus became the standard where every fuctional part of a vehicle got its own computer module to report to.

If they are smart, people will buy brands that already have the technology they want, which will cause GM to abandon this strategy. Other manufacturers are going to exploit this in their marketing.

The bean counters at the American car companies could screw up wet dreams.

As if I needed another reason to avoid Government Motors crap. Give me a Honda every day and twice on Sunday.

They all have been doing that for years.

They said they were getting rid of Apple CarPlay two years ago, maybe they are serious this time?

I was under the impression that they had signed a contract with Google, which eliminated Apple CarPlay in their vehicles

agreement to use Android as the OS to build their custom crap. Not an agreement to support Android Auto.

I think Google and GM want to own that data and not share it with Apple. Tesla did something similar.

To their credit....GM has a pretty slick UI. I guess that's the privilage/advantage of being massive and having a big budget for tech like that.

This might be a bad move for GM though still. And it would be a catastrophically stupid move for smaller companies with clunky UI's like Subaru and Mazda (or Volvo now that they threw their excellent sensus-based sysem out a couple of years ago and went with a really clunky, busy setup as an alternative).

I'm a Toyota guy. But some Toyotas didn't have Carplay even in 2023. And Toyota's native UI is not nearly as slick as GM's.

The lack of Carplay and the really terrible infotainment setup is why I foolishly didn't buy a 200 series Land Cruiser while they were still being built. It would have APPRECIATED in value if I bought one.

I thought that, too.

Then I bought a truck with CarPlay, but it had to be hard tethered. Nice, but not great.

Then I bought a truck with wireless CarPlay. *chefskiss*

Just make sure you turn off the collection and sharing of telemetry data. They aggregate and sell it. I assume other brands do this to, but I've only driven Fords for the last 15 years.

any system that doesnt support smart phone apps is fricking stupid.

you are in the business of making CARS, not trying to compete with google maps, waze or apple maps.

fricking retarded. focus on making a non-shitty car and leave the tech to companies who do tech.

My next vehicle will be from the last century, but it will be a really nice one that will make you want one too.
Old cars and trucks can be fixed new cars and trucks have to be replaced
