It was a poem written by a liberal lesbian to raise money for the pedestal...that is all.

I wish they hadn't let so many Irish and Italians in. And, RA'd for move to the poliboard.

Without more influx of immigrants from shitholes or wherever there won't be enough money to feed the social security Ponzi scheme.

The US wants immigrants that are educated (highly skilled workers) and that can contribute society. Even for the highly skilled and educated immigrants, it’s gotten much harder to get a green card then most people realize.
Uh, no they don't. Just ask someone about the H1B visa and see how many educated, skilled people they want over here doing their jobs for less than them. This is a fallacy and is designed to keep people out not as much as it is to screen "qualified" applicants.

They haven’t wanted the tired and poor since the early 1900s (unless you’re a refugee) and even then those people were laborers which we don’t need anymore.
You have a reference for this or is it just jingoistic Trump nationalism?
We need immigration. I want all the MFers that are willing to risk everything just to get here for a chance. I met a 15 yr old from El Salvador who worked on my roof. The kid WALKED to Mexico before he could get on a bus. The kid worked his arse off and was learning a trade. He was also eager to learn English. Those are the kinds of people this country needs. Who I don't need are the social and corporate welfare queens that live off the gov't tit.
I also love the white folks telling me we should wall off this country and restrict immigration. If only someone had advised the native Americans the same thing....

It was always just a poem that someone had put on the statue’s pedestal. That’s it. Was never some overarching statement of national immigration policy.

You mean the people that warred and massacred each other for thousands of years before Europeans arrived? Just like every other group of civilizations in history?
Woe to the vanquished

Too many of the tired and poors taking advantage of the system..

That's a long-winded way of saying you don't like colored people

Again, end the social welfare system. I have no problem with that.

It made sense both morally and economically back when the US was young, and needed an influx of immigrants to help it grow and expand.
Liberals conveniently forget that all these people who came here in the late 1800s and early 1900s did so legally.

I’m Indian and my family came here on a H1B visa. We have our green card now but it took several years and several thousands of dollars. I’m fine with legal immigration of skilled workers and their families but not illegal immigration.

Congress also banned persons because of poor health or lack of education. An 1882 law banned entry of "lunatics" and infectious disease carriers. After President William McKinley was assassinated by an anarchist of immigrant parentage, Congress enacted the Anarchist Exclusion Act in 1901 to exclude known anarchist agitators.[3] A literacy requirement was added in the Immigration Act of 1917.
Look it up on Wikipedia
I don’t think you know how legal immigration works in this country. You have to get someone to sponsor you for a green card. Whether this a company you work for or a close family member. However there are a few exceptions like those who want to start a business or clergy etc. And it’s a pretty damn expensive and long process. So yes the US has never really wanted the tired and poor.

Guess what? Not everyone is like that. I know people who are illegal immigrants. A number of them cheat the system best they can. I want LEGAL immigration. Illegals don’t deserve to come here and earn the right of citizenship because they broke the law. They didn’t have to pay thousands of dollars and jump through hoops just get a green card.

From a poem that was written as a donation to an auction of art and literary works[3] conducted by the "Art Loan Fund Exhibition in Aid of the Bartholdi Pedestal Fund for the Statue of Liberty" to raise money for the pedestal's construction. The poem was called The New Colossus", a sonnet that American poet Emma Lazarus (1849–1887) wrote in 1883. Interestingly, the pedestal was finished in 1886 but there was no plaque. A friend of the poet began an effort in 1901 to memorialize her poem on a plaque that was added in 1903.
But you would swear, based on what you see in the press now, that it was a founding principal of the country.

I think we should let people in. That’s not the problem.
We should giving up some of our citizens to other countries. Lifers in prison? Banishment! On welfare for >5 years? Banishment! Three unsuccessful stints in rehab? Banishment!

I get it. I just have a problem with penalizing people who’s parents got them here 30 years ago and now have families of their own and are good “citizens”. I don’t care much about the rest.

Problem or not, they did it in a not legal way.
Why should these 3 million democrat voting people be let in as citizens before others trying to gain citizenship in the legal way from other countries?

Uh...it's not about being "full." I don't even know what that means.
It's about the welfare state. It's a safety net for anyone who doesn't want to work. Before that, when you came here, you either worked your arse off and made a life for yourself, or you washed out and went the frick back to where you came from.
Now there's a safety net for those who don't want to work. It ruined the idea of letting practically anyone immigrate who had the means to.
