I’ll add Susan Tedeschi and Samantha Fish. Both can shred, and sing.

Not even the lead in her own band.

Best female guitarist ive ever seen. Does some shows with Tab Benoit. Not a big fan of her recent original songs but her playing is legit. Look up “black wind howling” on youtube.

It's genetic. The female mind isn't equipped to master a fretboard. They can sing good and write good songs, but that's the end of that.

I downvoted because I don’t agree with the second part

Shoutout to any of y’all who remember Allison Collins playing and singing every Thursday night at the Caterie circa 30 yrs ago in the mid 90s .. Real ones know .

Most everyone here knows Ms. Collins and her "Imma A Who Dat" video.

If not, then let me be the first to introduce you to what should've been a Grammy award winning song, but was very much looked over by the music elite!

MANY singer songwriters play guitar. I even know some who barely play it but they have it on their backs on stage to hide their mid section, and the sound guy just turns them way down when he finds out they suck arse. It’s so obvious when that happens too. I will say I don’t know a single session musician who plays on country records in Nashville who is a female save for a few fiddle players. But there are plenty of female TOURING musicians. And they have an easy time getting tours because “diversity.” The bar is WAY lower.

I actually have thought about this a lot, I think women in general don’t develop skills as much because they don’t really have to. Guitar is also just, not a “girl” thing when we were kids. They don’t grow up idolizing people like Jimi Hendrix / Jimmy Page / Van Halen / Eric Clapton… when I was a kid most boys thought those dudes were the coolest cats on the planet.

Men have to develop skills and become interesting / successful to get laid / get recognition / get jobs, etc. Literally all women have to do is look hot. Skills are a bonus. That is not enough for a dude. I’m not sure of the numbers but I’d bet that there are dramatically more men going to trade schools, when’s the last time a female came and fixed your AC / toilet.

It seems unfair and maybe it is, but if you learn valuable skills at a trade school or on your own, you can theoretically have them forever. But if you’re just relying on how hot you are, that fades pretty hard in your 30s and definitely into your 40s. But most musicians I look up to and work with could and did play well into their 80s. I assume the guy who tunes my piano, or fixes my AC, toilet, etc.. they could work into their 80s if they had to, as well, as long as they can physically handle it. Look at Pete Johnson.

Glad to see Molly Tuttle mentioned..

Bonnie Raitt is a great player.

But the mother lode of great female players is in the classical realm.

Disgaree. It’s a masculine endeavor and not enhancing at all

A sexy woman playing a guitar doesn’t become ugly, but it does nothing to help the attraction
