Waiting tables in college and a bus load of blacks showed up during swing shift, it was over 30 people and they saw where tables of 5 or more could be charged gratuity, they sat at about 10 different tables forcing me and the girl covering to wait around 12 parties at 2 on a Saturday afternoon.
They complained about slow service of course and didn't tip

Doesn't surprise me, I've seen some stupid shite over the years. In the article I linked to above the author starts it off saying he ordered something and then sent it back (a drink in this case), that happens just as much as not tipping. They sit down looking for something to bitch about and after eating half of it decide they don't like it. It would make me want to just start off by saying "Hi, I'm DavidTheGnome and rest assured you'll be getting a free desert so no need to go through the whole process, what can I start you off with to drink?"

You can tell right off, they'll start angling for a problem to setup the payoff

I worked at home depot as a specialist for about a year. Blacks would come in and take up 30 minutes to an hour of my time asking for an estimate. Id let them select a product and go through the whole process. At the end I would hit them with a big estimate and they would never come back. In my experience, they really don't have any money but they take up the most time.

FWIW, one of my best customers and a great tipper was a super religious man. He'd come in almost every Sunday with his extended family, pay for the whole meal, and always tip over 20%.
