The s'mores aren't all that great. I'd eat em, but ain't gonna buy them again. A glass of milk couldn't help with the dry texture.

I like a few of the cookies they offer. No big deal, if you don't like it then don't buy them. But now I am curious. What is the money they raise used for? Friends of mine, who had daughters who were in it, I don't recall them really doing anything with the girl scouts other than sell cookies and I don't know if any of them stay in it for more than a year. How do people benefit by joining them?

When Dollar General started selling them they were only a dollar a box. Then they caught on. They are about $2 now.

Since this is a cookie thread I would like to recommend the Red Velvet Oreos. You will thank me later.

I have only seen them in a grocery store a few times but my wife gets them delivered to the house occasionally.

I think they come from the Amazon thing she joined.

Good recommendation. Though I'd like to double down on the white fudge Oreos.

If you really want to know...

In our region, the profits stay within our area and help fund programs and maintain the camps around here. This means the prices for the activities the girls do at Girl Scout facilities are kept down.

Each troop receives a portion of the profits from what they sell too, and that money is used for activities the troop does. Ours uses cookie money so they don't have to ask girls for dues, fees for activities, supply $, and other stuff they do throughout the year. Most of it goes to camping trips--facility costs, food for the trip, etc. One year they even went on a trip to the Space Center in Houston which cookies paid for. Some troops save for several years for longer or bigger trips.

They also use troop money to fund service projects--blankets for the homeless, care packages for soldiers; things like that.

TLDR; the money raised from selling cookies keeps the girls off the streets.

you sir have horrible taste. They might not put as many cookies in a box as they used to and might charge more than they used to but thin mints and smoores are de-fricking-licious

Smores cookies weren't bad. Haven't tried the lemon ones yet. But I'd fight someone for a box of the peanut butter sandwich cookies

I said no to buying Girl Scout cookies today simply because it's an awkward buying experience. Don't really like haggaling with little kids

Love me some frickin Tagalongs. There's a weird amount of people that don't like tagalongs and like thin mints. I don't trust those people
