Unless you're out at sea or in a river dealing with strong currents, it's never made sense to me how someone can't figure out how to swim as an adult & not drown.
All you have to do is literally kick your legs and move your arms a little to stay at the surface.
ETA: Also, that lone white girl should have jumped into help. I guarantee she knows how to swim.

Babies? Lakes?
Really?
Bystanders could also invoke a high tech invention like a pole or a life ring that are next to every public pool on Earth.
That pool is 15 feet wide, and 40 people are watching. It's not someone falling out of a canoe on Lake Minnetonka.

I remember when a whole family drowned in the red river a decade ago. 7 kids one after the other, dragging each other in.
The adults stood on the shore, whooping and hollering and screaming, because none of them could swim either.
No one had brought rescue devices.
If you can't swim, you shouldn't be around water.

At that point, it’s all panic.
They know when they hit the water that they can’t swim so they start panicking and flailing arms.
They aren’t calculating the depth of the pool or even thinking clearly at that point

Case you were wondering why places are banning residential AirBNB's

Yeah, I get that. But still, you're thrashing about making all kinds of movements, I don't get how that alone doesn't keep you at the surface. Even with erratic movements, I don't see how that can end with you sinking.

People drown in water they could stand up in all the time.
Talk to an EMT or a life guard sometime, it’s shocking.

Well that would require them to put down their phones… or care.

I've swam in the ocean, was a state level swimmer in high school, done 2 mile swims in lakes, had to tread water for 20 minut4s to get my scuba license, was a lifeguard none of it is hard and only if you get a cramp. Everyone should know how to swim.
