Saw a video yesterday of a gator getting a dog. Poor thing slid down one of those concrete embankments
I can't imagine wanting to watch that.

Louisiana has more alligators than Florida but you never hear any stories like this. In Louisiana most of them live in the spillway and we have millions and millions less people in Louisiana. Florida is so densely populated and the alligators don’t have a lot of places to hide.

Almost certainly not leashed or this would have never happened.
I understand a leash as a preventive measure but it won’t work in every situation. I mean what would you do once the gator latches on.? Do you really think you are going to pull the pup free? At some point you aren’t going to want to keep what’s on the other end.

I think her uncle is on the phone with fl wildlife right now,
Why???? You chose to go into the gators domain, and nature did nature.
What are Florida game and wildlife supposed to do, caress your backs??? Stop wasting their time.

Maybe it's appropriate to report such incidents to the authorities so that they make a decision on the matter.

With a leash that dog is probably not getting anywhere near the gator. I suppose there could be some unusual situations where someone walking a dog on a leash accidentally walks up on a gator. But this is unlikely.

For sure.
"The authorities" are known for making rational, informed decisions.
