re: Getting local channels thru an antenna

This is a link that tells you all about your local channels. Enlarge the map, drag the blue pin to your location, and it tells you all the channels you should be able to get. It also tells you the true channel. An example would be WWL-TV channel 4 in New Orleans. On your tv, that channel is 4.1, which was VHF before the digital switch. Now it really is a UHF station on the frequency for UHF 27. If all the stations in your area are true UHF stations, you would not need to add high hats to the hoverman.

I've actually got a sheet metal awning outside my living room window covering where I park my car and that wall happens to be where they routed cable for us at one time through. I pulled the old cable coax out and routed a coax through it connected to an eight buck antenna I got at Wal-Mart atop of the awning. I pick up like 30 channe!s most clear as day anything across baton rouge airwaves. I'm most glad with it I was paying cox over 200 monthly for a lot of crap I never watched or can online just as well. Granted I miss my DVR but ill live.

I have an Omni directional antenna and get about 15 or so channels.
Hooked the house feed cable into it and then plugged the tvs into the wall outlet.
You will likely need to hit your TV menu and do the “search channel” option to auto find working channels.
Also make sure u are on “cable” not antenna or HDMI source

found like a hundred channels through my antenna when internet was out. Some pretty bizarre stuff too...

Take the foil off your windows

I also live in the middle of a city so I’m sure it’s not a distance issue.
Could still be.
Some stations put their towers outside of towns, for instance I used to have an apartment smack dab in the middle of decent sized city and only picked up a few stations with an antenna.
Bought a house like 30 miles outside of that town and my TV actually picks up like 15 stations without an antenna even being connected.
I didn't even realize that was possible.

In Atlanta I've found that antenna effectiveness varies widely by area.
Fourth floor of a Buckhead apartment building: lots of broadcast channels.
First floor of a Sandy Springs apartment building: nothing. Not one channel.
Single-family ranch house in Decatur: lots of broadcast channels, probably coming off Stone Mountain.
I'm in Griffin and have an OTA antenna and can pick up every channel w/no problem.
Ch.11 will get funky during storms w/the wind, though.

No issues here. I have antenna in attic. As other have said, let TV scan for channels
This. My house was wired before from direc tv to all my rooms. I just undid the wire that was connected to the splitter and connected it to a high end antenna I bought and I can get the local channels on all my tvs now

Thanks. I am a nerd, and I like to tinker. Sometimes that combination can be productive.

Same here except cable, not Direct TV. Nola’s WWL 4 switches to national news at 7a, but they still continue the local show on 54. You tube TV doesn’t carry 54, so my wife (no pics) switches to OTA at 7a to watch it. We also discovered after Ida while waiting on internet that an OTA channel, “Generations”, broadcasts Cheers at 10 and 10:30p, so we still watch that at night.

If not for OTA channels I wouldn’t have been able to watch any tv after Hurricane Ida. We were without power or internet for 16 days. I had planned ahead though. I already had the antenna mounted in the attic and coax run to all my tvs
During the ice storm we lost power, internet and cell service for 3 days. Was able to get a few OTA channels with rabbit ears. Because of that experience we now have a antenna mounted in the attic. Can get around 35 channels, a lot of it is crap, still better than staring at a wall, an having local news channels was very useful.

I would recommend an amplified antenna. Check Amazon maybe .

Dude, it’s not all as good as people make it sound. I live a fricking mile off I-10 in Houston. If anyone should get a channel selection, it would be this location. I catch like 7 stations and 4 are in Spanish. You still need to use your TV app and the Wifi.

You can also try antennaweb.org and locate local transmission towers based on your location.

Ran a scan and I have 35 channels. I also have a stereo receiver near my tv with a coaxial input so the antenna I have outside splits to the tv and the receiver. I believe I have literally every FM radio station availab!e in BR as well which is pretty neat.
