Wife called. They say if he goes to City Hall before 5 o’clock today or tomorrow, he can sign up for a driving course. This will keep him from having to go to court, and it will keep it from going on his record. But he has to sign up for the course on his own since he is 18. The course is held in person once per month. Success!
you two GenX helicopter parents are ruining this kid.

Can he not call the clerk or court and figure out this shite himself?

Lots of folks hesitate to call when 9 times out of 10, it works well unless the violation is egregious.

Some jurisdictions are happy to do this because it reduces their crime stats.

How agregious was your "careless operation".

I was given a "reckless operation" for rolling into someone at a green light.

Explaining that I was given a "reckless operation" on a police report that read (speed of < 5mph) was quite hilarious.

IDK, I picture my son weaving around slower cars on the highway. He drives a little lowered sports car and was likely being impatient.

Dude, call the DAs office and there will be a woman that handles fines. Be very very nice and in asking, see if the possibility exists that it doesn't go on your insurance. Literally the person who handles fines is in charge thereafter of sending a paid ticket (which admits guilt), to the dmv/insurance.
I've had no fewer than 5 tickets and done this...and the lady agrees not to send.

So they gave him a careless operation but no additional ticket? No speeding? No refusing to yield?

I would think they usually don't give out many careless/ reckless tickets without also having an additional violation.

If you can't explain exactly what he was given a ticket for then it would seem that the cop also didn't explain why he received the ticket.

Either your son is leaving something out or the cop was being a little excessive.

I thought it was strange too. She may not have been able to radar his speed since it was in traffic. She also may have just wanted to stop him before he ran out of talent.

I would definitely start by figuring out what he did wrong or what the careless operation is for. "What did he do that was careless if no other ticket was given for illegal driving"

She won't show up on court date.

Can be easy, can be difficult.

May be difficult.

This.

I got my attorney to get mine knocked down. There was 0 chance I would have been able to do it myself. LA state police don’t get happy when their shite gets tossed.

I had to pay a bunch of court costs. Ticket went from a speeding ticket to not existing.

Totally. Cops don’t pull people over for nothing.

Officer could have likely gotten him for more and was probably just being undeservingly nice.

How’d you punish your son to make sure he learns from his mistake?

He washed his car, changed his oil and told him he'd take care of the ticket for him. Didn't you know he kicks field goals?

This is the truth….I guess they deal with such shitty people all day every day that just a little sincerity goes a long way.

Did this tons of times while I was in pharma sales.
Tell the Asst. DA that you want to knock it down to a non moving violation but still pay the fine etc...

Or you can plead article 894 or 897 to get it expunged off your record but you will most likely have to pay for a defensive driving course.
