Getting a real "Get out of Jail Free" card

Apparently these are cards every cop can hand out at his discretion to tell anyone else "hey, this person is a friend or family member". There are eve gold and silver "tiers".
This way when you've been pulled over you can show the card to the officer. It's customary to just be given a warning after that.
The police union in NYC is complaining mightily about having their supply of cards restricted.
Bonus: Some cops make some of their cards available for purchase on eBay.

They also provide these to diplomats as immunity.

My father is a sheriff and I'm sure if I ever got pulled over I'd get a ticket.
Also, years ago me and friends got caught drinking. No get out of jail free card. $310 court and probation. He was chief deputy then, and sheriff at the time said, "charge em".
Now on the otherside of the coin, if he gets pulled over, he has a wallet where a cop sees the felt and knows there is a badge under it.

It is published by two of the best-known economics professors around these days (both from George Mason Univ), so it's probably fairly credible.
