True-- not many mainstream production cars drive like a BMW, but their reliability sucks. Japan wins every time on durability.

My wife's BMW is a piece of shite. Drives great when its 100% healthy which is about half the time. Some tiny, inconsequential thing will break on it and its over a grand to fix.

We are getting rid of it this month and probably getting her a 2016 Mazda CX-5. It drove like a sports car and the interior was badass. We want a crossover as well for her and this was our favorite.

I'm getting a Subaru Outback fully loaded hopefully

I get what you are saying about the Series 1 and 2.

I looked at Hyundai because I heard great things. I missed the boat on them, their prices are already way higher than they used to be.

I was like "50k for a fricking Hyundai?"

I'm willing to bet it's more status than performance. I do most of my driving in Louisiana and Houston and at least in Houston you have the chance to open it up and see what the car can really do.

In Louisiana, there may be two or three stretches of road I can think of where you would actually enjoy driving a car of that caliber.

I switched from Acura to Audi bc I didn't like the new TL body styles. Got an a6 and have been extremely pleased. Will likely get another or maybe an a8 depending on kid situation down the line.

Cat, they aren't quite there yet on NVH and for and finish.

To the OP, Germans have always been innovators and Asian marques are always replicators. German reliability has improved b/c of Asain competition.

The emergence of vehicles built specifically for the U.S. market, and made here, water down the German brands...but are clearly profitable for them. I'd never buy one. If I'm buying a German luxury car it's going to be made in Germany.

German Luxury Car Brands Dominate and Look to Extend Their Lead by RedRifle

They are better products from the low-end models to the ones that cost hundreds of thousands. American car companies seem to innovate in fits and spurts, but they don't appear all that interested in sustained momentum and quality. And they will continue to pay the price. I can't imagine abandoning BMW unless I eventually work my way up to a Carrera 4s.

NVH = noise, vibration, and handling.

The general overall feel of a Hyundai will not be the same,as a BMW or Lexus.

Fit and finish refers to things like panel gap, quality of materials, paint finish, etc.

Hyundai is closer in the second category than they are the first, IMO.

Acura has my loyalty. I own two and will probably buy them as long as they will sell them to me. But if I wanted a true top end performance luxury car, I'd probably buy a German car.

Agree. Been totally happy with my Acura But would consider upgrading to German engineering only.

Bought a 2012 GLK 350 about 4 months ago for 23k with 22,000 miles on it. My previous vehicle was an 05 lifted F-150. I'm sure it'll give me some headaches at some point, but damn I love it so far. I feel like I'm driving a cloud compared to my truck.
