I wouldn't call Broadmore completely gentrified. You'll probably get carjacked there.

Me neither. If he picks Shreveport he should do what everyone else does and buy in Bossier Parish.
With that logic he could live in Old Arabi and call it New Orleans

Need to be more specific. I might argue, there’s nowhere that really meets this description at this point.
ETA, never mind. I missed the link. That location neither fits the definition of “gentrified” (it’s pretty much always been what it is now - if anything it’s slightly less, iow NOT gentrified) nor close to the French Quarter.

Probably closer to the French Quarter than this spot. Arguably more “gentrified” as well.

Yeah, I wouldn’t call that part of the city he linked “gentrified” by any stretch. For $550k I’d go buy a brand new construction in Old Arabi/Arabi Heights and call it a day. You’re 10 minutes from FQ/Downtown. Super easy getting to and from if you go to Saints and Pels games routinely. And none of the taxes, water board, shitty streets, crime, etc., that goes with the city. I made this very move a few years ago from Algiers Point and couldn’t be happier.

Am I the only south Louisiana resident who likes Shreveport?
I’m not saying I want to move there necessarily, but I wouldn’t be mad at all if I had to.

Shreveport 100%
Everything about New Orleans is worse in every way than Shreveport except for the bar-hopping scene and nice restaurants.

I go to Ki Mexico in Shreve at least once a month, sometimes two. Easy drive from the Longview area and I love it.
But would I tell you to choose one gentrification hood over another? Uh uh

Grew up in South Highlands and Pierremont area of Shreveport through high school. Loved every minute of it and still back to Shreveport quite often.
Live in uptown New Orleans now and would not move back to Shreveport for anything short of seven figures. Pretty much everything we need including world class restaurants, a movie theater, bars, kids schools, pro sports, Audubon Park, drug store, etc either a short drive or within walking distance. Most importantly great friends all around. Never at a loss for things to do.

I despise the cookie cutter beige front of the S'port home, for that and many other reasons give me New Orleans

That NOLA house on Robert St. really isn’t “close to quarter”. Sure, it is closer than say Kenner but it is more Uptown/Fountainbleau/Broadmore than “Quarter”. Based on description I thought you were going to post something in Treme or St Roch

Unless you have strong connections in Shreveport you are dead in the water. You’ll never matter. New Orleans much more open and accepting. You really need more money to live in NO though. I wouldn’t consider Broadmoor a gentrified neighborhood. Add about $400K and you’ll be ok in New Orleans. Probably not enough money to make you fit in Shreveport.

Since I am not from N LA I can’t think of a single reason for me to move there. If looking for the Shreveport pros you listed, I would look somewhere else. I have zero need or want for a 4K sq ft house you linked for S’port either

I get what he’s saying. There are many opportunities for getting involved in the community in New Orleans vs Shreveport. No, you are not going to be asked to join the Boston Club, but if you want to get involved in Mardi Gras there are plenty of groups and organizations that would be happy to have you. Music, arts, sports are also great avenues. When I moved here over 20 years ago, I basically knew no one.

NOLA but Shreveport not as bad as most people from South La think

The NOLA house is not close to the FQ. And Broadmoor is notorious for flooding (and Latoya lives in Broadmoor). But why would anyone pick Shreveport?

Broadmoor is 3-5 miles from the FQ. That is within my definition of close
