Well, I do feel a little bad for those people trying to work for a living and stay out of trouble. Nola has a crap load of low paid workers. Think about who has to clean the 30,000 hotel rooms and work at the 1,000 restaurants to make tourist happy.
The public transportation here sucks so it would be horrible to have to take buses from Nola East, etc.

I overheard a guy at the bar in the Watermark Hotel on Saturday saying that there were “0” houses uptown under $375k and that he was developing a parcel of houses uptown for $450k each.

For those prices you could get a 4000 sq foot home in North Texas with little to no crime and the best public schools in the US.
You are completely correct here. I am amazed at people paying for this in a crap hole like N.O.

I can’t tell if you think this is a good thing or a bad thing.
For the record, it’s unequivocally a good thing.

Dead hipsters in the bywater would tell you it doesn’t work that way in NOLA
I was curious to know how many of the people murdered in NOLA in a given year are white. Of the 175 murders in New Orleans in 2016, 12 of the victims were white. And of those some portion knew their killer.
So, for whites in NOLA the odds of your being killed by a stranger ( some thug / carjacker / or by someone shooting at someone else ) are pretty damn remote.
In Neighborhood Scout's ranking of most dangerous U.S. cities, a ranking that looks at overall crime, NOLA is ranked as 84th most dangerous. Monroe, LA and Alexandria, LA are ranked as more dangerous.

You don’t have to go to N Texas. For those prices you can live in a lot of nice places where the public schools are good and crime is low.
