My parents bought a house on Laurel Street not far from Henry Clay in the early 1980s. We lived in it for about 10 years. It was very similar to those that are listed here. They paid $80,000 for it . Being in perhaps the nicest five block area of Laurel Street, I can’t imagine what it would go for now.

I bought a house in Gert Town in April. Brand new, gated, security system and all. Paid right at 200/sqft.
Since I bought the house, within 3 blocks of me 5 new homes have been built and there are 4 empty lots that look like they will be built on soon.
Should be able to turn a profit on this house sooner than I thought

They may have the romance for the city but they don't often have the financial means to afford the climbing home prices and rental prices that this thread is about.
I'm talking about them being priced OUT of the city. That is already taking place as the cost of living in NOLA proper rises. They are moving to Slidell and Laplace and points further northwest such as Gonzalez, Zachary, and Plaquemine.

The few that own their houses are finding the price of living there getting impossible. Taxes are now a real burden that they must pay.
Also rising cost of living.
That combined with a, relatively, huge payday has the traditional residents selling and moving.

Not necessarily true
Her daughter goes to Ursuline and is part of the Jr League. I would not be surprised if she moved her daughter to ASH down the road. A friend of mine, this board would call her a SJW, is on her neighborhood development team - this girl was former Rex queen/maid.
