Generator talk - what happens if gas in it and uncranked since last season?

Buddy of mine has an extra, but he told me point blank it was at his parents camp and they got a natural gas generator last year. They just left this extra one sitting up (but in covered storage), uncranked since like November.
I'm picking it up this evening. Any advice on how to crank, clean out carbonator, etc? Or any chance the gas is still stable enough?

gas ain't a problem, its just a matter if the carb is gunked up.

Gas lasts a year. The pertinent is the gunk that ethanol causes to build up.
Will it start with ethanol spray?
If it does, but doesn't run with gas it will need the carb cleaned.

Pour bleach into the gasoline reservoir and run it until all gas/bleach mixture is gone. Then spray 409 inside to “coat” the walls (like PAM on a dish)
Fill to three-quarters with gasoline and the rest with a fabreeze/dish soap solution.
It’ll run like a charm

If it’s just a year old you might can get away with just topping it off with new gas. I would buy a bottle of fuel cleaner though to be safe.

Just get some carb cleaner and spray it out. Should be fine. Happened to my brothers last year. Oh and of course drain the gas.

Won't know until you try I guess. I've let some stuff sit with gas in it longer than that crank right up after putting fresh gas in it. I've had others sit for less time get gunked up and not start. Generally I've had better success with Honda engines.

It’s probably ok. Find the gas line coming from under the tank andfollow it to the carb. Pull the line off the carb and let the gas run out of the tank. put in some non-ethanol gas and add a splash of startron or seafoam and run it for a while.

Hopefully he was running ethanol free in it.

better hope they used stabil and non ethanol

IF you used ethanol free AND you put fuel stablizer, I wouldn't be as worried.
If you didn't do both of those things, I would be more worried.

seems like all of my little stuff(weedeater, blower, etc.,) gunks up if I don't start them up almost every day, I've got a DeWalt pressure washer that's 17 years old and starts up first time every time no matter how long it sits

Get some fresh gas, carb cleaner, and starting fluid.

I would definitely throw a little sea foam in it no matter what you do.

I'll admit I treat my pressure washer like shite. Only use it maybe once or twice a year, let gas sit in it for months at a time, etc. It's ~10 years old and starts right up. It is a Honda engine and I use Stabil in my gas, and I think that makes a difference. Non-ethanol gas stations are too far to use, and the stuff they sell at Home Depot is too expensive to use regularly.

Drain the fuel. Replace the spark plug. Spray lots of carb cleaner into the carb. Let it evaporate. Remove the drain bolt on the bottom of the carb bowl and let it drain, Spray with carb cleaner again and allow it to drain out the bottom,
Refill with ethanol free gas. Pull rope and enjoy electricity.
You’re welcome.

Yeah, ethanol will pull water out of the air over time. The water sinks to the bottom of your gas tank and it’s the first thing to hit the carburetor. The first thing to do before you crank the engine is disconnect the fuel line and drain it. Second is removed the bottom nut on the carburetor and drain it.
Reconnect and try to start. This should work for the majority of engines that have been sitting up for a long time without prior “winterizing”.
