I have teens in my home, they both know to dial one for long distance. I know you can use whatsup and so on but surely they must dial someone long distance now and then and know this? What kind of kids are you hiring, this seems tough to believe.

I have a phone sitting on coroner of my desk. I literally can not remember the last time I made an outgoing or received an incoming call on it. Been in my current office for past 6 years and I know for a fact I’ve never touched it. It’s either email, teams calls or my cell phone. Hell I don’t even know my own extension number for my line.

I'd be worried that no-one considers me important enough to call. I just got a call today about spending big corporate bucks on something, didn't seem right to do it in email. But maybe that is just me.

My Gen Z daughter called me from Greece about a hour ago saying the lights and air wouldn’t come on in their Airbnb. She FaceTimed me and showed me the fuse box. All looked good and thankfully the slot where the card goes to turn everything on was in the picture, empty.

I told her to put the card in there and voila air and lights.

Missed opportunity. Should have told them to dial 6 before dialing out and then waited for the perfect reveal.

How old is your phone system? I haven’t had to dial 9 to get out in going on at least 15 or so years. And you only have to dial the 10 digit and don’t need to include the 1.

Your company really needs to get with the times and get VOIP.

What kind of bootleg operation are you working at that doesn’t use voice over IP? That’s been a thing for like 15 to 20 years

We are heavily regulated. We have landlines and back up landlines. I don’t know what is special about our “red” phone but it is our disaster back up. I could pull the SOP but I don’t care that much. For the calls we make we can’t use personal phones, everything is tracked and recorded. I am sure there is a way to have compliant VOIP but it just might not be a priority or someone decided the land line was statistically more reliable.

As far as bootleg, we probably have the most state of the art lab on the gulf coast and throughout all of Louisiana. These girls are doing real science, they will be reference scientists when other labs can’t figure it out and they will be developing new test protocols and SOP’s for labs all over the region.

It was just a funny situation that I have not encountered yet. I am sure my own son could operate a land line, we have never had one in his life.

Both these new grads are smart and so far, hard working... they just never had to do this before. I had to demo how to call out... and then they both wrote how to dial out in their notepads!

To be fair, when would kids nowadays ever dial a phone? Or a 1 before dialing?

When’s the last time you put www before an Internet address?

I’m a millennial and every place I’ve worked has had a completely different entirely-too-complicated way to dial out.

That's why dialing instructions are laminated amd taped to/near the phone.
