Why? For all their hippy anti-oligarchy shite (mostly written by the same guy) they've broken some huge stories.

Here's what gawker media does

Jalopnik is daily reading for me, as is Deadspin. I don't know where to find such writing on those subjects - cars & sports - in one place. Gizmodo is arguably the best tech blog.

And now that it's been uncovered that Hogan's lawsuit was proded and bankrolled by a closeted right-wing billionaire I don't see why people still defend it.

Because he won which means Gawker was in the wrong maybe? Just spitballin there but perhaps the concept of right and wrong can be difficult. Not for a jury though.

I think Gawker is a good lesson in that hiring unapologetic assholes to run your shite will make you a huge target. Daulerio thought he was hot shite, and his deposition brought that whole operation down.

Another representative issue is that Tommy Craggs resigned because Denton took down the outing of the Conde Nast exec story. They have some fricked up priorities over there. Those unfortunately have cratered the occasional good work they did. The Manti T'eo thing might be the craziest sports story in a decade.

frick Gawker.

Shitty gossip site that pisses and moans about other outfits' questionable ethics while participating in and bragging about the shady shite they do.

Gawker and Jezebel have published multiple articles decrying other media outlets for "outing" people and then they (the writers and editors) went absolutely apeshit when the exec team pulled the plug on an article that outed a VP of Conde Nast (rival media company).

They are the kings of calling other groups, people and companies out for things, and then turn around and throw very public tantrums when they get called out for doing the same thing.

Gawker media group is the kid who tells on all the other kids in school, and then has a meltdown anytime someone tells on them.

This.

They are the posterchild of the "Self righteous, the rules apply to everyone but me" attitude.

They also are on the call everyone racist/bigoted assholes. They took Deadspin which provided alternative coverage of sports and made it a site that more often than not seems hellbent on destroying sports. It really is something weird over there.

They have been "in the wrong" in my eyes on a number of issues - the outing of the Conde Nast guy was terrible - but I still think their reporters do good work also. I also think they were screwed from the get-go having to defend the Hogan suit in front of a Florida jury. There's no way in hell that damages award will be upheld.
Maybe I can just buy Jalopnik on the cheap, since it's the main reason I'm defending these assholes.

So because it happened last month I should just accept that journalism can be shaped by billionaires who can out-litigate news outlets? Sorry if I'm a little incensed at the idea of the super rich shaping news.

The super rich are also entitled to their privacy, as in not having some media outlet out your sexuality because they have a beef against you.

So PEOPLE in Florida who serve on juries are somehow different from people in other states in regards to right and wrong? Not talking the "newsworthy notables" we see so often on the OT, talking at least passably normal people who would qualify for a jury.

What part of our entire legal system is NOT determined by the deepest pockets? Criminal law? Nope, deepest pockets get the least penalties (Affluenza teen, Stanford Swimmer ring any bells?). Civil Law? Nope, deepest pockets get the best outcomes. The deepest pockets ARE the establishment and have set the system up to benefit them the most. Want it changed? Get deeper pockets.

Justice is served.

However, Foxtrot Alpha is a daily read for me - I hope someone picks it up
