Was just in one by myself for 10 minutes while she smoked a cigarette outside.

I finally walked out with my stuff and said your cash is on the table.

She said I didn’t even know you were in there and I told her yeah I know.

It always amazes me that these women aren't absolutely terrified for their safety. In a city like BR or NOLA, working the overnight shift alone at a gas station is basically just a waiting game to get held up at gunpoint.

It's one of those jobs youd kinda want to prevent a loved one from taking. I've seen too much uncensored security footage.

I doubt the lady behind the counter even actually cares if you took stuff. It’s not her stuff so she ain’t gonna lose sleep over it

Just last night I stopped in one with a girl working alone and she was telling me about how scared she is at night. This was a young girl about 100lbs. No way I'd ever let my daughter work a job like that. Nope nope nope

For anyone who has been in an Allsups and wondered why they have that annoying ding every time someone enters and exits (when it is busy it is never ending and loud as frick), it is because they had several women in eastern NM stores who were kidnapped, raped, killed. I know one who survived after being left for dead in the desert.

Now they are required to have 2 employees at all times and the annoying door bell.

I suppose if someone had to work the night shift at a convenience store then Allsups is probably the safest option nowadays.

So you thought a power trip was a better idea then simply asking her politely if you could check out? And no way she didn’t know, where was your car parked? At a pump?

I've never heard of Allsups. That's a weird name for a convenience store.

What else is she gonna spend her 2 15 minute breaks on? It's Fed Employment Law, 30 minute break relieved of ALL duties, no exceptions. So interrupting her smoke break is a violation of her Legal Right to a break and causes problems for payroll.

This is what gets nurses and other health employees is that they are still on-call during "break" making it a non break that they are not compensated for if hourly pay. At the hourly rate of a lot of workers that 30 minutes short per day ends up being thousands over the course of a year, especially when it puts them into OT pay. ($40/hr nurse, now $30/day on OT, x 300 days = $9k...for y years)

It's one of the reasons nurses go on strike, no breaks, to even keep from crapping themselves they have to insure someone is covering for them just to wipe their own butt in case a patient needs butt wiped. ICU, ER, that kind of department means shift of total stress with zero real breaks every day, 24/7/365. So the next time you see 5-6 nurses sitting at the nurses station where the monitors for the entire floor all are tied to, remember, no breaks. Those nurses may be sitting but they are monitoring, planning , etc., no breaks where they get true relief from duties. Someone extra has to be there just so they can pee and/or poop. And they do it without proper compensation under the law.

yeah; neither would I

my 16 year old wanted to apply for a job as a hostess at Olive Garden; I just laughed and told her no - less dangerous than a gas station; but full of alcoholics and drug addicts
