I would certainly strike back, but slower. And go after the enablers too

If I am not mistaken, there were no security cameras or alarms back then. This incident was a major motivator behind the alarm systems we all know today.

My parents were separated at the time due to my dad's drinking. They eventually got back together because part of his probation stipulated that he could not drink.

They split up again (never divorced) in 1991 because once my dad finished probation...he went back to drinking.

My mama had me siding with your mama back then. But when I grew up and got married a couple of times, I realized that our moms are to blame. Our dads' drinking wasn't the problem.

I think he was trying to be funny because I think it was a line from a movie.

If not...he needs to learn how to Google.

Y’all are both right fwiw.

And Gary did what every real man who’s fathered a child would probably want to do in that situation.

Don't fret. Jody is here and silences those idiots with a humility and candid wit just like his dad would.

That's what makes Gary Plauche such an American Hero. He wasn't some big bad dude in our neighborhood. He was the opposite in fact. He was a diminutive witty guy who enjoyed sharing jokes and beers at the neighborhood pool or coaching the little league softball teams.
He was just "Coach" Gary to us.

The way he flipped a switch from "little league coach" to "deadly calm assassin" resonated with every father in the world.

Tracy Smith summed it up best...

quote:

Farewell "Big" Gary Plauche'. We grew up with the Plauches. They were like our family. They were our family. There were the Plauches, the McCrakens, the Cagles, the Grahams, the McElroys, the Achees and the Lintons. We were a group of families living in a young neighborhood bound by common threads. We lived in a time before technology. We would play all day till the sun went down. We played pee wee football, BREC basketball, rode bicycles, jumped on trampolines, built tree houses, caught snakes, brought home strays, swam at the neighborhood pool, climbed to the tops of tress, set up ramps and jumped them with our bikes like daredevils and we played in the woods back when there were "woods". We were fearless. We went on adventures. We had cookouts, barbecues, crawfish boils and drink a lot of beer. We slammed our hands in car doors, we broke bones and got stitches. We experienced trauma and tragedy together. We witnessed the drama of life; father and son quarrels, an accident at the pool, and when the unthinkable hit us, we all stuck together. We had a loving fondness for each other. And we looked out for each other. And once upon a time when someone came after our family and sought to hurt a member of our family Mr. Gary stood his ground. And we stood by him. The whole community stood by him. Our dads were from a different generation. They drank to excess, they told jokes and laughed til they cried, and they were men of their word and friend to many. They were good men. They would scream and they would yell but when the moment was right, the tears would flow down their wrinkled faces and you knew that there was a deep abiding love inside their hearts. They were honest, loyal and kind. They were our Dads, doing the best they could and despite all their faults, the depth of the love, they had for their families was undeniable and unshakable.

Mr. Gary Plauche was a good man. And he will be missed tremendously.

~Rest in Peace~

I knew his brother Jeff well :

Jeffrey L. Plauche' Sr., belovedly known as Papoo, who lived on False River in Ventress, Louisiana, passed away on September 26, 2016. He was a graduate of Louisiana State University and worked as a food broker for many years. Captain of the cheerleading squad at LSU, he helped encourage the Tigers to win the National Football Championship in 1958. Jeff and his father created the legendary Tiger chant: "Hot Boudin, Cold Cush Cush, C'mon Tigers, Push Push Push," which is still cheered by students, alumni, and fans today.
