The sidewalks there are long overdue but...

Yeah because they threw the trash and debris in the ditch on their last walk to the store.

I use to ride my bike South down Parker to.get to school at Walnut Hills. There was a foot bridge off Parker that crossed Dawson Creek and into the back of school. Nice neighborhood back in the day.

I'm thinking of Boyd by Bogies. They added sidewalks to that about 10 years ago.

Fewer open ditches and more space. Also a competent Mayor at the time.

West Parker

OK

Yes, it did take awhile to do that project. It looks nice though.

There were guys taking elevations along the route this week. Which means we have a long way to go. But this has been sorely needed, I drive down that stretch to and from work almost daily. I'm truly surprised there haven't been more vehicle pedestrian accidents.

I'm assuming they are going to be installing drainage system along the stretch. If they have to continue to access the sidewalks with mattresses and doors out of the crack houses I don't think the project will be much of a success.

Good old Parker.

I used to do the same circa 1970 to 72. I remember a kid going down into the creek and getting stuck knee deep in the mud. They had to send the some of the Walnut Hills faculty down there to get him out. It was hilarious.
When did they tear that foot bridge down?

From Parker East towards the creek was a steep hill. Riding down was fun.

I don't know when the foot bridge was taken out. I used it before you did. Early 60s

I remember when they built the Claycut bridge over Dawson Creek.
The one they are replacing now.

I would include this in the article if some outside force was the one doing the trashing

Culverts in any existing ditches are expensive, any utility relocation costs additional money. You're paying for a lot more than just the side walk in most projects like this.

It's a pretty nice, no risk job to the contractor (you're not building a water tower or bridge that could collapse and kill people) so I'm sure they had some pretty competitive bids.

How sad is it that they had a groundbreaking ceremony for a sidewalk?

Politicians gotta Politic and no one cares about a $5 million renovation to a sewer plant. People can at least see a direct benefit to the citizen with sidewalks

I'm assuming you mean you saw a survey crew, they were prolly either marking utilitys or doing construction staking. They weren't "taking elevations" for a pre-liminary survey though, it's the beginning of construction
