This has been a massive problem in trying to attract businesses to come and stay here. IBM in BR is in the same boat. They can’t even fully staff the giant new building downtown.
Baton Rouge Business Report stated the company doesn't pay good enough compared to other companys.

There aren’t enough qualified tech people in Louisiana, or that want to relocate to Louisiana.

GE isn't having any issues. IBM is just a shitty place to work and doesn't pay for talent.

That's extremely low for lots of IT positions. I interviewed for a team-lead position and the offer was laughably low for the job responsibilities. They have a reputation for doing this and then abusing the visa program. Took my ball and moved to Texas.

I work in IT too and that's not a good salary. Especially in Nola

If the government is subsidizing (bribing) industry to come somewhere it's a good bet they'll lowball employees.

I was looking at schools over where when looking for where to live, and was blown away that they have classes for computer programming, systems design concepts, and computer repair in middle school here.

The really frustrating thing about all of this is you look at cities like Nashville and even Chatanooga that have transformed themselves into thriving IT job markets, and New Orleans/Louisiana just can't get it together.

Even Des Moines freaking Iowa has a thriving, young workforce and is attracting businesses and tech jobs.

I imagine a judge didn't force the "kids with tech aptitude" to leave the schools in the 80s

What does IBM pay? It would have to be extraordinary to convince people to move to BR that ain’t from there.

ding ding ding.

Been in the Tech Industry for a decade now, it would take well into the 6 figures for me to even consider moving back to BR and working/living downtown. It's not affordable to raise a family in a good part of BR, own a nice home, and make that commute for anything less. Hence why the talent moves to Houston, Austin, Dallas, Silicon Valley, etc.

I went through the interview process with DXC. They had the positions set up to be SME/Architect level knowledge and experience, with entry level pay. They don't want to hire people, they want to claim they can't find qualified candidates and then get H1-B workers.

Called it. Months ago when this was announced I said that this would happen. I wonder where those who claimed this was still a good idea are?

You're going to see a boom in the heartland because of business friendly environments and very affordable cost of living

IBM has been lowballing the hell out of new hires. Even with their incentives they’re still not adjusting.
And they don’t have that whole building, never were.

Ah yes, of course this brings out the New Orleans bashers. You people need to get out more... American cities generally suck, no matter where you go. I'm sorry you don't know how to avoid bad neighborhoods, grandma.
