The state is pursuing the return of more than half the $1.97 million in incentives it gave much-touted video game developer Gameloft after the company fell well short of required hiring goals and closed its New Orleans office.

Gameloft had peaked at 40 employees at its Canal Street development studio when it closed at the start of this month, officials with Louisiana Economic Development said. But a 10-year agreement with the state required Gameloft to have 121 employees during 2017 and eventually reach 146 workers by 2021.

Can’t fault Gameloft. It was a horrible idea. We don’t have the talent to support the jobs and who the fricks wants to raise a family in that shite hole?

This has been a massive problem in trying to attract businesses to come and stay here. IBM in BR is in the same boat. They can’t even fully staff the giant new building downtown.

There aren’t enough qualified tech people in Louisiana, or that want to relocate to Louisiana.

What does IBM pay? It would have to be extraordinary to convince people to move to BR that ain’t from there.

Hence the staffing problem. I’m sure they pay decent, but it would take 6 figure salaries for even low level employees to get people down here from out of state.

Businesses make stupid decisions to move to new orleans off of "the food, and the parades!" Not surprised at all.

What on Earth was the incentive of the state to make this deal?

It’s obvious that Gameloft missed the memo that the statues were taken down.

Their loss. Other businesses are already waiting in line to get their former office space.

Per the article that you obviously didn’t read, Gameloft is closing offices all over the country. This has nothing to do with NOLA.

According to the video game website Gamasutra, since 2015 the company has either shut down or made significant employment cuts at offices in Seattle, New York, Tokyo, Spain and New Zealand — shedding 900 workers.

Good. They should recoup every single penny. Tired of these supposed free market warriors blathering about personal responsibility, etc. etc. while living off of the Gubmint teat.

Which businesses have moved to New Orleans because of cuisine and/or parades?

Did they honestly think it would justify 1.97 Million?

Y’all are assuming there isn’t enough candidates to fill spot but how do you know the company intended on filling these positions?

Maybe profits and financials prevented the company from filling these positions and meeting the quota

How many video game development people have you met in South Louisiana? Or even heard of?

And that is something that everyone minus Jindal and his worshipers saw coming.
