He came up a little short.

I filled that exact combination 6 times today before we ran out of hydroxychloroquine.

And the study wasn’t blinded, meaning the patients knew what they were getting, nor was it randomized. That limits the scientific merit of the study.
We need more studies!!!

Gilead’s remdesivir enters China phase III trial to fight coronavirus
February 3, 2020
BEIJING – China kickstarted a phase III trial Feb. 3 to determine whether patients with 2019-nCoV can be treated with Gilead Sciences Inc.’s NUC inhibitor, remdesivir, four days after a U.S. patient was said to have recovered by using the drug candidate. The study is a phase III randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled multicenter study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of remdesivir in hospitalized adult patients. It has enroll 270 patients and be carried out in the China-Japan Friendship Hospital in Beijing. It is the largest of 23 similar studies testing the efficacy of antiviral medicines.

“That first wave of Chinese patients we had (in Australia), they all did very, very well when they were treated with the HIV drug,” Professor Paterson said. “What we want to do at the moment is a large clinical trial across Australia, looking at 50 hospitals, and what we’re going to compare is one drug, versus another drug, versus the combination of the two drugs.”
The two drugs are Chloroquine, an anti-malarial drug, and HIV-suppressing combination lopinavir/ritonavir.

Chloroquine disphosphate (already used widely for malaria cases) seems to open the gate to allow the zinc to help alleviate COVID-19. “Increased intracellular levels of zinc prevent the viral RNA from hijacking the cell’s machinery. It blocks the replication of the virus within the cell.”
South Korea through its trial studies (used on the elderly) recommends 7 to 10 days (1 pill per day – 500 mg) of Chloroquine. Their study was published in the medical research 2.13.20. Chloroquine in the U. S. requires a doctor’s prescription.

The search for the cure of Coronavirus has been on for some time now, and Chinese experts, based on the result of clinical trials, have confirmed that chloroquine phosphate, has a certain curative effect on the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
According to Sun Yanrong, deputy head of the China National Center for Biotechnology Development under the Ministry of Science and Technology, at a press conference said the drug will be included in the next version of the treatment guidelines and applied in wider clinical trials as soon as possible.

A renowned research professor in France has reported successful results from a new treatment for Covid-19, with early tests suggesting it can stop the virus from being contagious in just six days.
Professor Didier Raoult from infection hospital l'Institut Hospitalo-Universitaire (IHU) Méditerranée Infection in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur), published a video explaining the trials on Monday March 16.
Professor Raoult is an infectious diseases specialist and head of the IHU Méditerranée Infection, who has been tasked by - and consulted by - the French government to research possible treatments of Covid-19.
He said that the first Covid-19 patients he had treated with the drug chloroquine had seen a rapid and effective speeding up of their healing process, and a sharp decrease in the amount of time they remained contagious.

Remdesivir is about $1k. Not terrible but pretty high up there.

I was in bed for 9 days ( until last Sunday ) with all symptoms except trouble breathing, took a zpack, my lungs cleared , and now I’m not sick. I’m guessing my cold/bronchitis was probably not Covid-19. But who knows, right?

I think we will start to see a trickle of positive anecdotes over the next week, before it becomes a commonly accepted approach.
Here was a good interview of a doctor in NY about this treatment and how it works... LINK
Couple highlights...
1) Dr said older people’s immune systems are actually stronger than younger people’s- this drug reduces immune system overreaction that leads to eventual fatalities. As a non medical professional this was news to me.
2) The combination of drugs also limits viral replication... was aware of that.
As a non medical professional it makes sense that the original small scale trial had a handful of cases that progressed to the ICU and one death. If given this treatment when someone’s immune system has already overreacted (ARDS?) and it’s late in the game this treatment will be limited in value. It seems like this treatment would best be used on people in the high risk category before they have progressed to a critical stage.
Here is one anecdote from someone on Twitter who claims that is exactly what happened to her...

This is my O2 sats before and after three doses of hydroxychloroquine and two of azithromycin. My doctor is using it off label for symptomatic, high risk people. She saved me from having to go to the hospital to be put on a vent.

No idea honestly bc the problem remains that most active drug bulk powders come from China. Congress must change the laws in regards to this to prevent this type of shite happening.
