I don't believe that. I do believe that an avenue has to be taken that "panders" to that audience. It isn't a sprint to fix the problems, it is a ultra-marathon.

It's an unfortunate fact and probably the biggest barrier to progress. It has become taboo to address the main issues that cause the majority of the problems in certain communities. Hell, Bill Cosby got raked over the coals for doing such a thing and he was a prominent and well respected figure in the black community for decades.

I understand it's not a sprint, but we need to keep in mind that, while we're trying to complete a 3,000 mile jog, the bodies are still stacking up.

I'm with you. I don't think there is a cure-all for the situation we have pushed ourselves to.

It does seem that wealthy citizens running away from the problem while lecturing over their shoulder isn't working. Its been 2 generations of that solution and it is just getting worse.

I'm not sure how much farther people want to push themselves into the suburbs in the idea of it being the solution.

You're obviously not "good" with that resolution. You sound bitter.

That happened? Did you speak at a meeting on a particular topic? What had them so upset at you?

If he is the guy that spoke against giving the tax dollars to the COA, I was there for that. He gave a very reasoned comment on why the Council should hold off on giving millions of tax dollars to the COA until controls were put in place and the litany of troubling allegations investigated. People were pissed at him and I was furious that several of the council members blatantly spent the time during the comments checking phones and laptops. Don't know if that was him or not but the City Council isn't the place for reasoned debate. It is a giant echo chamber as of late with debate and differing opinions not welcomed.

I didn't mean to insinuate that "they are the problem"

Just that the solution to the problem isn't running away from it.

Try to avoid the problem, you're racist.

Try to come in and fix the problem, you're racist.

But they didn't create the problem, why shouldn't they feel compelled to avoid it?

I get it, but it's simply human nature. Why would I remain and/or invest in an area who's citizens say "give me your money and shut the frick up"? It's hard for me to justify wanting to pour resources into an area where the people have no interest in taking care of their own. Money isn't the magic bullet they claim it to be. If I build a $10 million mansion filled with the finest of everything, but it's built on a bad foundation, then it will be an expensive pile of rubble in short order.

There are plenty of areas across the country that have reversed the tide.

I think uneducated people on both sides is what prevents BR (and NOLA) from getting over the hump and allowing some changes to be permanent.

Both sides want to place blame while not wanting to even take part of the blame.

Who cares who is at fault. Start working to fix it.

I'm not from here. My family ties aren't here, but I still want to live here and not see it deteriorate.

I've tried to help; lend my assistance and support. Speak candidly, but constructively. And I'm not welcomed because I don't share the same skin color or political party.

Multiple times have I skipped going home to my family after work to participate or attend a Metro Council meeting, public hearing, or community meeting; and not receive the same respect I have given for differing opinions. I don't need to be cursed at leaving a council meeting or mocked on social media by a sitting council member for my comments...I've got too many other important things to deal with.

Bitter? No. Frustrated? Yes.

Are you shitting me? The situation in North Baton Rouge is the fault of no one but the people in North Baton Rouge. To try to frame it any other way is dishonest.

The first way to get people to help with your issue is to stop blaming them for it when they had nothing to do with causing it.
