They even named it, "The Gamblers Fallacy". People that understand math generally stay away from casinos, or if they do go they do so with the knowledge they are going to leave with less money.
I enjoy gambling and I am aware casinos are not designed to give money away. When I gamble, I like to play games that involve some type of decision making (poker, sports betting on football for me.. And I like black jack).
My end game is to come out ahead. That obviously doesn't always happen, but if I am playing black jack for example.. If I go to the table with $100, I set my cash out mark at $30. So if I win a hand and I am at $30+ I cash out. You can't continue to chance more and expect to win.
One time at Harrah's, in New Orleans, I was waiting for someone to come out the bathroom and while I was waiting, I put a $20 in a slot machine. One the send spin, I hit $100 and I cashed out. There was this old lady next to me and she said something like "are you crazy? you just hit big, that machine is warming up". I told her that she was welcome to play on it.. And she switched from the machine she was at to the one I hit on... But I thought it was funny she thought I was crazy for cashing out $119 with only $20 invested.

Because they think that a person has to be involved in some real shite to do something like what he did. They can't understand that people can just snap and do crazy shite. So in their mind, there had to be some elaborate motive.

On whether or not dealers get tipped well: Table games dealers share their tips. They get a toke rate which is essentially an hourly rate. However many tips the table games bring in per week/month gets divided up by how many hours all employees worked.
Slot technicians are the same.
Poker dealers keep their own tips. I dealt poker part time when I was 23. Back at the height of the poker craze. I made 40k part time. Some full time career dealers were making 6 figures. I remember the table game dealers in the break room back then always saying the toke rate was around 17/hr.
On the video poker discussion: probably one of the smartest games to play if you know what to look for and how to play it right. There are strategy charts online that tell you the best decisions to make just like there is for BJ. Jack's or better, look for the payouts on the full house and flush to be 9 and 6 (that's hard to find bc it's the best. 8/6 or 9/5 is good too), and play perfect strategy will return 0.995 which is roughly the same as bj using perfect strategy (with exceptions for variables depending on the house such as number of decks, hitting soft 17,etc...). But with video poker you are getting way more player points because of both the amount of bets you can make in a shorter amount of time and most casinos flat out give VP more points per dollar spent. The casino almost treats VP players as well as slot players. But slots have the worst return to the player than anything else in the casino.

What about dealers who are dealing in poker tournaments? They are not getting tips right?

They set aside a portion of all the entry fees collected to pay the dealers. In addition, if you cash you're asked if you'd like to throw in a little extra when they hand you the money.

How many arms smugglers buy dozens of semi-auto rifles at sporting goods stores and gun shops legally in their own name making it certain the weapons can be traced backed to them, then haul them up to a hotel room in a busy resort where everybody and their brother know them to make the deal when they could easily just meet up in the desert, the answer is obvious, none.

Casinos make money off people’s greed. The casinos have enough money to keep playing until you give all your winnings back. You don’t.
The odds in lost table games aren’t terrible and people can make money. However, the reason most don’t is because they can’t leave when they do.

Fire water not good for the locals. Just returned from Utah Arizona and New Mexico. Most of the signs on side of the road relate to DWO and turn in a drunk driver.

Arizona is not a state you want to get busted driving drunk. Mandatory minimum 10 days in jail on top of everything else.
ETA: Usually they will let you do work release so you keep your job. Had a coworker have to do that. Work a shift and then straight to jail each day after work.

Yes it does.. In Louisiana, you hear of a drunk driver wrecking into and killing someone and then find out he/she has had 3 or 4 DWIs. And then you wonder "how is this person still able to drive legally?"

Everyone seems to be focused on the gambling, forgetting that basically every casino out there has some non-gambling entertainment of some kind. Vegas has Britney Spears, L'Auberge has some random person you'll never see again.
Casinos are for bored people looking for entertainment and are willing to pay for it, whether it's at the one-armed bandit or paying for overpriced Cirque du Soleil tickets.

The alcohol isn’t free.
Yes, there is at least one set of eyes on every employee on the floor except the bathroom attendants and all of the employees eyes are on the players.
Dealers tips are subject to each individual but I will only sit at a roulette wheel when 2 certain dealers are on it and I tip them very well.

I’m just glad the bathrooms at the winstar are working tonight top to bottom. All you can eat crab legs is flowing through me like a river!

There are people at larger casinos that are responsible for bringing in whales and they are paid a commission on what the whales lose.

This guy knows what he's talking about. Had a friend that grinded video poker to get 7 star. No idea how much it cost him time and money-wise or whether he ended up or down.
It lays ok odds but variance is still a bitch. You might hit your goal but due to variance you might still be down 4k from just running bad. Tempting, but that's a scary proposition for me.

People in baton Rouge don't understand how good lauberge is. I don't work there. Never have. But I gamble there a lot. 18 Steak had come a LONG way over the years (I think they've gone through 7 executive chefs?) and it is really good now. The stadium is probably the best sports bar in BR. Good bar food and a ton of tv's. The bar in the casino always had good cover bands on the weekends. The bar outside the gaming area (the one outside 18 steak) usually had a good solo artist on the weekends.
Gambling wise, you're not going to find more player friendly blackjack rules for low limits anywhere than you are here. A lot of places around here (LC, Biloxi, Shreveport) are slowly switching to 6:5 blackjack (which is almost uniform in Vegas) but every table at lauberge is 3:2 no matter the minimum bet. And here at lauberge you can play 2 hands without having to double the minimum bet no matter what limit you are playing. That's rare. There's no continuous shuffle machines.... It's just top to bottom a great casino and I'm not sure how much the casual patron realizes it. We are lucky to have it.
