Panzerabwehr Abteilung 15, 15th Infantry Div.
LVII Army Corps, 1st. Panzer Army
Donets Sector, Eastern Front, July 1943

quote:

The Marder I "Marten" (Sd.Kfz. 135) was a German World War II tank destroyer, armed with a 75 mm PaK-40 anti-tank gun. Most Marder Is were built on the base of the Tracteur Blindé 37L (Lorraine), a French artillery tractor/armoured personnel carrier of which the Germans had acquired more than three hundred after the Fall of France in 1940.

I couldn’t imagine trying to keep those things running and working in the frozen mud of the Eastern Front.

Mash horn had the 8.8 cm. The Marder series had the 7.5 cm. gun.

This is a Nashorn...

Hope you used acrylic based paint since it would be easier to get the stains out of your mom jeans. Oil based can be a bitch. Like you

Somewhat related:

In WWII, the Soviets sometimes used sticky bombs to destroy Nazi tanks by having their people run up to a tank and stick the device on. The response from the Nazis was to start putting a stucco kind of coating on their mobile armor, which would crumble off with the weight of a stuck-on explosive. And the Soviet response to that was to tell their people “You’ll have to hold the bomb on until it explodes”.

Anyway, modern examples of Nazi armor with that stucco-like coating are apparently rare. I visited the Armor Museum in 2007 (at Ft. Knox back then), and they had recently heard about a Nazi anti-tank gun that had the coating, at the bottom of a frozen lake in Ukraine, and had offered to purchase it after retrieval from the water.

The first thing the Ukrainians did after retrieval was pressure wash it. Bye bye rare coating.
