Hang in there bud. Meet me at the Fiesta parking lot and we can be sad together at a safe distance of 6 feet.

I don't think life insurance policies pay out on suicides. Also, your time is 1000 times more valuable than your money to the ones you love. blee dat and be well.

Corona was just the final straw. He had other issues before this. JMHO.

And you'd be blaming him if the guy died from COVID for not shutting it down. You win no matter what I guess.

I used to think that too, until I got corrected by an insurance agent I know well who said that even with a suicide clause they will often still pay out after the first 3-4 years of the policy have passed.

That makes a nice Hallmarks card, but it's just not always the case.

Not talking about Owl, the OP or anyone in particular.

They do. But there's a minimum of year(s)

I stand corrected on payout. Not on time spent which creates memories that have long term impact. That’s real life, not hallmark.

since I'm self-employed there's no extended unemployment
Did you file for self employed unemployment? The minimum after taxes is $636 a week. They’re paying that retroactively for the week of April 8. I have family who are 1099 misc completely self employed, and today they received $1262 for self employed pandemic unemployment benefits for 2 weeks. I hope this applies to you!!

I don't know if our working fellow Americans can morally be asked to stay off of the job for one single day after April 30th, 2020. That's the max, IMHO.

I've been wondering about this. I haven't heard anything about suicides, but I have to think they are going to skyrocket.

I've heard many times that suicide is a selfish act, but is it really when it's undertaken not as an escape, but so that others may benefit from the insurance proceeds when you can't provide for your family directly.

I've known several kids whose parent committed suicide.

You cannot leave enough money behind to cover for the feeling that somehow the kids were responsible. That if they had done XY or Z that mom or dad would still be alive. Worse than that is their feeling of not being loved by a parent, who chose death over them

I only know of one instance where this happened and the timing was so bad I can't imagine what his kids and family have gone through over it

Some serious editing went on in that first page. I wanted to read the whole thread before commenting.

Can't now.

Suicide is horrific but anyone who kills themself over money obviously has severe underlying mental health issues that needed to be addressed.

Pieces of paper that only have value because enough people agree it does aren’t worth anyone’s life.
