So frick it, let’s just cancel work in December. Do what Europe does with August.

Europe also cancels work in December, usually starting about St. Nicholas' day (Dec 6.) I work with a bunch of Nordics on one project, and I started warning people about this in October, and got greeted with shrugs. Oh well, I guess my status report on that project doesn't need to change for six weeks.

I flew out of Dulles this morning and expected it to be really busy being a Friday. I’ve never seen it this slow. I had one person in front of me when I went through security. I’m used to 60-90 minutes to get through security on Fridays.

How about moving it to 12/15 instead?

Everything could be wrapped up and everyone can enjoy time off around the Christmas and New Year's Holiday.

Some of us have worked their way up from working outside to working in an office.

Now we get paid to think instead of stink. You should try it sometime.

Is it that difficult to treat high performers differently and allow them to work from home, while forcing the underperformers and slackers back in?

Yes it is. We build teams. You’re only as strong as your weakest link, and let’s face it, 75% of people perform worse when in their pj’s at home.

I'll reverse that; 20% of your people make 80% of the revenue. High performers keep the detritus afloat and employed.

But weren't you just complaining about 5 days a week in the office in another thread? (or maybe this thread, I've been awake since 0200)

Just as dumb is allowing people in the office to call in via Teams for a face to face group meeting.
they're trying to tell you that meeting you think is important is in fact not important.

I usually don't think 80% of meetings are important

But, managers allow people to do it all the time.

My biggest project of the year, that I've been working on for almost 2 years, closes on the 26th.

Solution: urge your company to hire more Muslims

Can trade Ramadan days for Christmas days.

25+ years ago, I worked in an office with a 24 hour emergency response "team" (it was one person.) We loved our Jewish team member because he always took Christmas and Easter. All he ask was that he was off for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Done.

Must be nice. Have not had a day off or a vacation in the last 15 years. We are short 4 people and no one wants to work so now I’m working Saturdays now . Last person who took vacation days the owner fired his arse the day he got back from his vacation. I have over 600 PTO days, not allowed to use them , probably won ‘t be paid for them.

Obviously have no clue about your situation, but this sounds like a shitty job environment and I can’t fathom why you are putting yourself through this kind of life.

Your boss sounds like a jerk who dictates instead of leads and, for whatever reasons, has mostly found the right minions to enable him/her.

You really can’t find another job?

Director in a small business. I'll have more luck this month from a business development standpoint than nearly all others.

People in the office are often more receptive to conversations and generally in a better mood. December is huge for us into Jan/Feb/March
