A friend of mine is thinking about renting a house in the Freetown neighborhood of Lafayette. I don't really know anything about Laffy, so can someone give me some info on it? What's the neighborhood like? Is it safe?

Why are you so concerned about this area if its "for a friend?"

It's named after the capital of Liberia, so I'd say take that for what it's worth

Kinda hipsterish, but it's close to downtown and some decent food options. It used to be kinda rough, but I think they've been cleaning it up here recently.

I'd live there for sure.

Definitely a little hipster-ish, but you can walk to music venues like Blue Moon & Artmosphere.

Anyone who tells you it's not safe either hasn't been there in the last 20 years or is just stupid as hell.

It's a little hipster community. It's not River Ranch but they have cool houses and you can walk to bars and shite. I wouldn't call it the safest spot in town. It borders with some pretty shitty spots.

Freetown itself isn't dangerous, but the riff raff that wanders into it can be unsettling. The residents are all either hipsters or burnt out hippies so you're good for the most part.

If the OT has found out about freetown that means it's not cool anymore.

It's dangerous y lafayette standards. By BR standards it's really safe.

It's definitely on the border of the bad area of lafayette.

Yeah, it's definitely bordered by some unsavory types. The hippies don't seem to give a frick though.

Also, Artmosphere is a shithole.

Thank you all for the responses.

I live in Beauregard Town in BR. It sounds like this is sort of the Lafayette equivalent then?

My girlfriend lives near Freetown.

The good: walking distance to downtown, bars, music, Downtown Alive, etc.

The bad: Like mentioned there can be some sketchy types in the area. When I stay there I always make sure my truck is locked and there's nothing of value in the bed, I've had a $250 hitch stolen out the back of my truck before. Over the 3 years we've been together she's had her car broken into twice, her sister once, and several other people in her condos a few times as well. All of which had left their doors unlocked, I've always just assumed people walk around and lock-check vehicles probably on a weekly basis.

Wasn't there a murder/suicide there within the last year?

It's pretty close to those apartments where some girls got raped. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a murder suicide but I can't remember off the top of my head.
