Awesome video.
What a different time. Hard to believe that was in Oakland.

This was just one of the legendary Day on the Green concerts at the Oakland Coliseum put on by Bill Graham. Check out the lineups:

The Oakland lynyrd skynyrd was surreal.
Are there even any modern Southern Rock bands around today?
So glad we now have such great standouts as Luke Bryan, Brad Paisley, and the country rap artists to take their place.

last show is in 2 weeks, so you better hurry if you're trying to see them.
Their last show was 40 years ago.

If I had to guess that show was probably the Last time the dump of the Oakland Colesium was packed.
I saw the Pink Floyd-Division Bell tour there in 94. They sold out three nights in a row so it definitely wasn't the last time it was packed.

An underrated moment was Nirvana's MTV Unplugged in 1993
No. If anything, everything Nirvana did is immensely overrated.

Incredible. I was only one at the time of the crash, but always wondered what it would have been like to have been planning on going to the show and have it canceled the way it did.
I watched 'If I leave Here' last night on Showtime. Pretty good. A little similar to Gone with the Wind except you get to see more rare photos of RVZ and hear interviews. I devour anything I can get my hands on RVZ(and the old Skynyrd). The Freebird Oakland video is awesome especially at the end when they do the pan-out of the crowd and the entire stadium is going nuts.
BTW I will be making the pilgrimage to the crash site Saturday Oct 20th if anybody wants to come meet up!!

years ago the post crash version of the band did a show at the PMAC on the 20th(?) anniversary of the crash, first time to BR, they had some sort of VIP setup for anyone still holding tickets, primo seating, back stage meet and greet pre and post show, etc., I didn't go, those guys are pretty tough to listen to for me, ironically when I moved to FL and was in a band a few years later I ended up meeting a few of them and some of their crew and jammed a bit with them a coupe of times

Gary Rossington was one of the most laid back guys I've ever heard interviewed...

Notice TouchedTheAxeIn82's link at the top of the page. It was a big festival.

Back in the day when rebel flags were still cool. You would probably have an ANTIFA riot now.

Most stylish was Ed king. Beer gut always hanging and a Marlboro red dangling at all times. BP's vest are classy too.
Ed King has a website where he answers questions. Says most of them never carried a suitcase or wallet. Would have their manager buy new clothes as needed from Kmart and follow them around with cash. Gone with the wind was another good documentry.
Line up, up until vicious cycle was good I felt. I think cus was a better drummer than burns or Artimus. Hell I'll put red white and blue in my top 10 skynyrd songs of any line up.
How rad is it watching rosington solos where he puts a smoke in between the strings and continues to play and will pull out and take another drag.

It’s tough to beat Spinal Tap after the authentic Stonehenge stage setting arrived.

Blackberry Smoke is pretty good, and I heard another one who sounded southern rock on the couple of songs I heard, Steel Woods.
The Black Crowes weren’t around long enough.

Their ‘76 show in England is widely considered their best version of Freebird.
The Stones were hosting a festival at the end of a European tour. Rumors were it was going to be their last show. Somewhere between 100,000-300,000 people showed up.
It was a very hot day, and sound problems created huge gaps between performances. The crowd was tired, and mostly laying around waiting for the Stones.
Skynrd woke them up, and people claimed an energy flowed from the band to the crowd during Freebird.
