Can you imagine if this became a reality? No more hotels, airlines, transportation of any kind. Example, your boss tells you that you need to attend a week of meetings in Singapore. Teleport to the conference room in Singapore every day at the time of your meeting and teleport home every day to sleep in your own bed at night.
If this ever comes about this will be quite disruptive to the economies of the world.

As soon as you use it you won’t exist anymore, only a copy of you.

Interesting that you're interested in teleportation for affordability.

The only reason Star Trek used, and still uses teleporters on the various shows, is that the original show didn't have enough special effects budget to show shuttles leaving the ship and arriving on every new destination. The teleporter special effect was a cheaper alternative.

Be careful - AOC could be reading this and think it's real and try to include it in the Green New Deal

How is this better than VR?? you can stay in your own bed all day while at that conf in singapore. Even better is that you can wack it to the cute asian hotties in the meeting, and no one is the wiser...as long as you remember to mute of course.

Better brush up on your time zones.

And don't teleport at the exact same time as someone else!

Was that originally in a Ray Bradbury novel, cannot remember.

You had to kill the original after teleportation?

As other's have said, it won't become a reality, at least not in the earthly time saving sense you're talking about. Teleportation as seen in Star Trek is essentially cloning. The benefits of teleportation would be going from Earth to Mars to save months of travel time. It would likely take a lot longer to transfer your consciousness and bioprint your clone in Singapore than taking a sub-orbital flight there.

Now if you're really rich maybe you have premade clones standing by for your transfer like in Altered Carbon. That could potentially be quicker than a flight, but just like in Altered Carbon, that'd be something that only the super wealthy would have access to.
