I’ll have to rewatch it, you are probably right it is probably sped up. There were the headlights of the cars going across the bridge, but I really didn’t pay attention to how fast they were going across the bridge.

Diversion to old bridge I guess.

They'll fast track all of that. It'll be like the new twin spans bridge. It took 3.5 years to build a new bridge after starting 1 year later.
It took them 4.5 years to build the new Sunshine Skyway Bridge once they started construction 3 years later. The new bridge will be comparable to that construction. They'll build a similar cable-stayed bridge with a wider ship channel. They'll get funding quickly, it'll be marked under strategic national importance.
2030 is a good o/u

I don’t understand why the ship didn’t drop anchor immediately? That’s a manual system and an emergency procedure that is practiced!

I Shudder to think, but what would happen if something like this were to befall the Mississippi River Bridge?
After 9/11 The new Homeland Security folks looked at terrorist threats revolving around crippling commerce in the US. Many road and rail bridges, including i-10/190 bridges in Baton Rouge were potential targets.
But it's kind of like worrying about nukes hitting Exxon. It was one of HUNDREDS potential targets in the US.

I know we are quite early in this thing.... but what is a realistic timeline to getting the bridge rebuilt?
Will it be named the James Weldon Johnson Bridge???

The entire bridge doesn't need to be cleaned up, just the middle section for the shipping channel. In a major state of emergency, any idea how long that would take? I'd assume a couple of weeks?
The NTSB doesnt move that quickly....it will be years by the time the lawyers, NTSB, Insurance companies, salvage companies agree on prices, plus they have to deal with the weather delays up there......

they were but not right before the bridge collapsed. It doesn't look like any vehicles are moving across the bridge before it collapsed. It kind of looks like there were some stopped vehicles though, but hopefully not.

I read somewhere it was a ship possibly from Yemen? Isn’t that our enemy so why would their ship be allowed here? Always a foreigner of some type.

Walton & Johnson just confirmed it was a North Korean vessel.

No idea if they'll just be able to "move it off to the side" but it will definitely be a narrower squeeze that some shipping companies may not want to mess with until it's back to normal.
Not sure if this pertains to the area where the bridge is but the main channel in the Baltimore harbor is 700 feet wide (51ft deep), so they dredged it pretty wide. I'd think they did that because it's such a busy port.

If they lost power, that could've affected it. On a boat that big, you're not stopping with just an anchor.

Anchors were dropped and a mayday call was made when they realized they couldn't control the ship. Boat was going 10 mph with almost half a mile before the bridge. They would've reached the bridge in 3 minutes at that speed, where any major corrections had to be made immediately. Anchor wasn't going to stop it in time, ever. If they don't have power to bow thrusters and the main engine, they were just going to drift into the bridge, which is what it looks like happened.

They are still using his name? The man has been dead for years and the guy the replaced him is too bitter and not humorous enough

Baltimore is gonna have to do what Seattle does and get ferry ships to transport cars across the river. That bridge will take years to rebuild.

For a boat that size and being in the US, you still need local pilots on board to do the actual piloting, so not sure why this matters. Keep that W&J shite on the Poli Board.
And Singapore is not in Korea.
