Go back to the 1 pm forecast and earlier. The east side of the cone was more westerly than a direct path that the storm was on. Mandeville/Covington was outside the cone and you could see if it just kept going on the same track it was headed closer to New Orleans. They had it going through BR which would have required a direct turn to the north and a more westerly track which rarely ever happens.

and do you seriously think if you're a mile east of the cone, you'll have perfectly fine weather? the cone is for the center, which is this case, was 80 miles wide when it hit us with tropical wind fields probably triple or even more the size of that. y'all are just bitching just to bitch. it was always going to effect you, so if you didn't prepare, that's on you

I agree they didn’t botch it, but I don’t really agree with this statement.
NHC makes a forecast for the exact location they think it will be in. That’s the line. The line is the forecast. The cone is just the average margin of era over a certain time period.
So TECHNICALLY, Their forecast was a little to the west (the forecast will never be perfect, nor should anyone expect it to be), they just happened to miss within their normal margin of error. Which is still incredible.
This is really a dumb thing to argue about though. Generally speaking they nailed a southeast Louisiana landfall days before this thing even started moving this way. Anyone criticizing the NHC is dumb as hell

Not bitching and I was well prepared so F off. Do you work for the National Weather Service or something? Just pointing out that their predictions were not as accurate as the local forecasters who kept getting shite on in this thread. If you can’t call out bad forecasting how can you improve it in the future?

The libs at the NWS were focusing on the EURO model. They don’t even get hurricanes in Europe.

Does the NHC deserve to be mocked? No, they were close
However, the board weathermen on here mocked the shite out of Katz and Fox 8 all morning yesterday and he was actually closer in the end
