spared? thats kinda dumb. Like pointing a gun at someone and saying you're going to shoot them dead but at the end be like, nah man I"m just joking but you should be happy I spared you.

There’s been some dumb shite said in this long thread, but you win the dumbest, and it’s not even close

I’m probably in La La Land here, but I always had the feeling that Entergy affirmatively shuts off the power right before these storms hit; for safety reasons in case of dangling live wires. I don’t even know if they have the “power” to do that. But it seems like the power goes off when the winds aren’t that bad yet.

Plants in the path of the storm likely have a controlled shutdown procedure for critical power only.

As for Entergy, the grid has protective devices built-in to open circuits if there is a fault. For example, if you hear a loud bang and your lights go out, a fuse likely tripped up on a pole that feeds your house. People like to say a “transformer blew” but that’s typically not the case. There would be a big fire if a transformer had an internal fault and actually blew up.

That’s just one small tidbit but the power system is designed to protect itself and its users with fuses, reclosers, breakers, and relays.

Spacecityweather has been a little hyperbolic in the past but they're pretty good.

They’ve been pretty wrong too. Imelda and beryl were fairly bad to really bad misses

That said, they generally own up to it.

The one dude spends too much time on weather twitter and you can tell that he really doesn’t want to be one of them.

Hoping it lasts a little longer than that in Old Metry. Trying to make lunch for my kids, work out, and shower before it goes.

Ryan Hall on YouTube is talking to Brad Arnold who is driving just SW of Houma. If you want a live look what it looks like down there.

Eugene Island Buoy

38kt sustained. Pressure down to 1002mb. Approximately 60 miles from storm center but closer to 45 to worst winds. Should get dicey in the next 3 hours.

He kind of has to be. Unfortunately, you get buried by the algorithm if you don't.

The difference between Reed and a lot of other chasers is that he has the legitimate meteorological chops that you have to respect and listen to. The other is just window dressing driven by the fact that he's funded 100% by YouTube/social media.

ETA: When it comes to severe/tornadic storms there are few who can match his work on radar. He just has a feel for it.

100% agree. He has been thru some stuff and his hyperbole has likely saved lives from it getting boosted and so many people watch and learn.

The money has helped buy equipment and get even more/better data collection. Reed isn’t afraid to risk his life for his passion. He’s one of us but with a meteorology degree and funner toys. He is living his best life and helping to save others.

In tornado season truly is the jedi master.

yeah, landfall might be a little earlier now per the latest from NHC

quote:

At 100 PM CDT (1800 UTC), the center of Hurricane Francine was
located near latitude 28.6 North, longitude 92.1 West. Francine is
moving toward the northeast near 16 mph (26 km/h). This general
motion should continue through this afternoon, and Francine is
anticipated to make landfall in Louisiana within the warning area
later this afternoon or this evening. After landfall, the center is
expected to cross southeastern Louisiana tonight, then move
northward across Mississippi on Thursday and Thursday night.
