I am from the donaldsonville area. If you look on windy.com, they say that winds should be in the 30s when it hits my area. Why are the winds so low for a category one hurricane? I’m just trying to find some reassurance that it won’t be like IDA or worse being this close to the passing of the eye this close to me.

There was a little shite hurricane that came through New Orleans 5-6 years ago - can’t remember the name to save my life - but the eye passed over the city right before sunset, and it was just absolutely one of the most beautiful things ever. They light outside was unlike anything I’ve ever seen.

There were several 80+ knot = 92+ mph flight level winds just east of the center on the last pass. Those were the highest so far with Francine. They were at 93.8 to 93.9 degrees West (about 30 miles from the center).

My wife is from Northern Alabama, but she's been here for 26 years, and says she'd never seen the sky look like it does after a hurricane prior to living here.
