This is my problem with the heat index and wind chill factor. Is there no wind in the summer? Is there no humidity in winter?
The human body experience temperature as heat exchange. Heat index and wind chill are meant to account for that. Humidity in winter and wind in summer dont drive the heat exchange like humidity in summer and wind in winter.

Then how come it feels cooler in Summer when the wind blows and colder in the Winter when it is damp???

Its small potatoes in magnitude and makes it more comfortable. So, you dont worry about it.

That's why WBGT is a better indicator.

Hot air holds more water than cool air. It is always going to feel muggier in the summer mornings in the high 70s then it will in winter months, even if the relative humidity is around the same
usually not particularly windy on 100 degree days

What bothers me is we have meterologists who mention there is an area to watch, but when that area fizzles, they never come back and let everyone know it's done. It's like they pretend it was never there, that they didn't mention it.

But do you need them to tell you it's gone for you to know it's gone?

Dude you needed the OT to tell you if your faucet was frozen or not.

Me, personally? No. The average person who only watches TV news and social media without doing more research. Yes, probably.
In this era of "look at me" and "watch us because we need the ratings", well, let us look at you when you're wrong, too. Since the same meterologists will come back and peacock about how they're right, it'd be nice for them to at least explain why they thought a storm might happen and then why it fizzled out.

Chnaces lowered to 30% for the wave but the Euro ensembles love it in the southern gulf later in the period. All kind of things happening, the wave moving west, the low near texas and the cold front coming later.

These two concepts have been around forever and were discussed on TV weather forecasts long before the current hype on climate change. We had wind chill advisories when I was a kid in Chicago winters ..... nearly 40 years ago.

Exactly, you feel better in Summer when tgd wind blows and you feel better in Winter when it’s a dry cold.

Anyone monitoring the lemon in the gulf? Some ensemble members have a noodle or two heading to Louisiana
Posted on 9/3/24 at 9:18 pm to Mr Roboto
It’s got 5-7 days if it does anything. And that’s a big IF. Ensembles have shown better support the last 24 hours but it’s still not a strong signal. It’s September in the Gulf so anything is possible, we’ll have to watch it but as of now it shouldn’t develop into anything significant.

What should be a good, detailed breakdown of the failure modes in play with the season so far. I've just read the introduction, but it seems to be an honest accounting of what has been a miss so far.

You know, thats a likely consequence, the upper trop getting warmer.
Though I think this year's story might be closer related to that volcano a year or two ago that dumped all that h2o vapor into the atmosphere.
