Modern art is ugly af. Modern architecture is beautiful in its simplicity and elegance. With that said, modern architecture has no place on the Notre Dame Cathedral

I guess replacing the old spire with a minaret would just save time down the line, right?

What am I missing?

If you know anything about historical restoration or working at any high profile place at least here in the states the situation will make you scratch your head a little. Fire is always the main concern when dealing with older structures.

The problem I have with disregarding what was there before and putting something new is that it’s probably coming from some banal post-modernist architect.
Being a catholic and seeing what has happened to our churches over the last 50 years, these people can go frick themselves. People went to Notre Dame to see a masterpiece that draws a soul to God.

People don’t go to Los Angeles to see this ugly POS

Or this ugly vagina church in Oakland

I just know deep in my gut these French faguettes are about to replace that spire with a giant penis looking thing.

In the US, additions to historical buildings are required to be distinct from the original structure. I assume that’s that way in Europe too due to things like the Louvre Pyramid.

The design of the new spire could come down to determining if it’s a renovation (recreation) or an addition.

Around 7:55pm, a man walked into St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan with gas cans and lighter fluid, and was subsequently apprehended by @NYPDCT without incident. We thank our partners for their help, and remember - if you see something, say something. – at St. Patrick's Cathedral

I am with you, go back with something traditional or like it was before. It would be ruined if they used a modern design.

The won’t ask me, but if they did, I would suggest a steel exoskeleton in a similar design to the existing features. It would be practical and be complementary to the ironwork on the Eiffel Tower. The roof and new spire could be constructed of lighter metals such as aluminum or titanium.
