shite like this is why I get there when it opens and I am out by 3pm. All of the fights and shootings happen later in the day.

I used to love doing shite like this in the city, and you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who is more “New Orleans” than me, but I think I’m done. I rarely even go into the CBD, to the dome, warehouse district anymore.

I’ve moved to a gated community to reduce incidents and actively avoid areas whereas before, I used to go everywhere and do everything.

As soon as my daughter graduates and leaves for college, I think I’m out. Maybe I’ll just leave the city, and find someplace on the north shore or in another part of South Louisiana, but I kind of want to leave leave.

I kinda sound like a bitch, but the fatigue is real.

I read stories like this to remind me. We lived in the Quarter for a decade, we put up with the noise and the drugs on the street after midnight and the trash trying to get other trash to stop shooting up. Not to mention the hassle of finding parking to unload groceries, and on and on.
But I miss the restaurants, the architecture and a lot of our friends many of whom died of stress after Katrina.
There are times I really even miss my decade in Houston.

But when I read about NOLA and Houston, now I'm living far enough out in the country, great neighbors (almost all of them) washing gifted free range eggs several dozen this morning, spring here and about to plant my vegetable garden, and the morning heron fly over is pretty darned good, even if we only have one really good grocery store, the only store, and only one Mexican restaurant within six miles.....

And I don't have to worry about what day of the week it is with all the parking problems and has the street sweeper come yet or do I need to keep circling the block so my car won't be towed,

Damn FQF was always pretty tame generally speaking.

These types didn’t usually have it chalked in their calendar and they don’t seem like the type that reads Offbeat, Where Yat? Or a Gambit for the schedule

Our 19yo Italian au pair with broken english wanted to do a solo 4 day weekend trip to New Orleans since she loves exploring new places. She got a hard non-recommendation from me. I should have just showed her this video

I knew some MPs back when I was in the US Army. They would knock out some of the new recruits and they would wake up a couple of days later. They would love to ‘ settle ‘ a fight like this.

The city was always a little grimy, but you could avoid all of that by sticking to certain areas. That’s no longer the case. There is no way I would let anyone I care about bang around the city without me. Absolutely not.

Jazz Fest has wisely gone in the direction of charging a lot so as to price the undesirables out.

I saw some crowds and it appeared to be very trashy. As long as it’s free, you will get that crowd. It’s unfortunate because it used to be such a great event.

And yet, on Reddit /NewOrleans all you see is people bitching about the LNG being down there. Smh.

There is one bar in particular that continues to cause problems for the city during FQF. It was the scene of a late night shooting last year and is why they have so many national guard / state police in the area.

It’s not pictured and I can’t remember the name, but it’s behind Felipe’s.

Wouldn’t be surprised if that place was shut down.

Goddamnit. Good to know.

Easily my favorite festival in NOLA, including JazzFest.

i went all 4 days and stayed in Jackson Square. It was a delightful experience . No hood rats at all. Also heard the Jax Brewery Stage was decent. However the Riverfront stages were pure chaos. Plan accordingly next year.

I spent much time in Riverfront. Lots of people. All having good time.

I’m usually Esplanade side but they shuffled stages due to construction. That was worst thing I encountered.

Good time!
